Little Nutbrown Hare, who was going to bed, held on tight to BigNutbrown Hare’s very long ears.
He wanted to be sure that Big Nutbrown Harewas listening.
“Guess how much I love you,” he said.
“Oh, I don’t think I could guess that,” said BigNutbrown Hare.
“This much,” said little Nutbrown Hare, stretching out his arms as wide as they could go.
Big Nutbrown Hare had ever longer arms. “But Ilove you this much,” he said.
Hmm, that is a lot, thought Little NutbrownHare.
“I love you as high as I can reach,” saidLittle Nutbrown Hare.
“I love you as high as I can reach,” said BigNutbrown Hare.

“I love you across the river and over the hills,”said Big Nutbrown Hare.

Then he looked beyond the thorn bushes, out intothe big dark night. Nothing could be farter than the sky.
“I lover you right up to the moon,” he said, and closed his eyes.
“Oh, that’s far,” said Big Nutbrown Hare. “Thatis very, very far.”

八、Five Minutes’ Peace
http://ec4.images-amazon.com/images/I/51p4erpkBvL._AA160_.jpg
The children were having breakfast.
This was not a pleasant sight.
Mrs. Large took a tray from thecupboard.
She set it with a teapot, a milk jug, her
favorite cup and saucer, a plate of
marmalade toast and a leftover cake
from yesterday. She stuffed the morning
paper into her pocket and sneaked off
toward the door.
“Where are you going with tray, Mom?” askedLaura.
“To the bathroom,” said Mrs. Large.
“Why?” asked the other two children.
“Because I want five minutes’ peace from all ofyou,” said Mrs. Large.
“That’s why.”
“Can we come?” asked Lester as they trailed upthe stairs behind her.
“No,” said Mrs. Large, “you can’t.”
“What shall we do then?” asked Laura.
“You can play,” said Mrs. Large. “Downstairs. Byyourselves. And keep an eye on the baby.”
“I’m not a baby,” muttered the little one.
Mrs. Large ran a deep, hot bath.
She emptied half a bottle of bubble bath into thewater, plunked on her shower cap and got in.
She poured herself a cup of tea and lay back withher eyes closed.
It was heaven.
“Can I play you my tune?” asked Lester.
Mrs. Large opened one eye. “Must you?” sheasked.
“I’ve been practicing,” said Lester, “You told meto. Can I? Please, just for one minute.”
“Go on then,” sighed Mrs. Large.
So Lester played. He played “Twinkle, Twinkle,Little Star” three and a half times.
In came Laura. “Can I read you a page from myreading book?” she asked.
“No, Laura,” said Mrs. Large. “Go on, all of you,off downstairs.”
“You let Lester play his tune,” said Laura.
“I heard. You like him better than me. It’s notfair.”
“Oh, don’t be silly, Laura,” said Mrs.Large
“Go on then. Just one page.”
So Laura read. She read four and a half pages of“Little Red Riding Hood.”
In came the little one with a trunkful oftoys.
“For you!” he beamed, flinging them all into thebath water.
“Thank you, dear,” said Mrs. Large weakly.
“Can I see the cartoons in the paper?” askedLaura.
“Can I have the cake?” asked Lester.
“Can I get in with you?” asked the littleone.
Mrs. Large groaned.
In the end they all got in. The little one wasin such a hurry that he forget to take off his pajamas.
Mrs. Large got out. She dried herself, put onher bathrobe and headed for the door.
“Where are you going now, Mom?” askedLaura.
“To the kitchen,” said Mrs. Large.
“Why?” asked Lester.
“Because I want five minutes’ peace from all ofyou,” said Mrs. Large. “That’s why.”
And off she went downstairs, where she hadthree minutes and forty-five seconds of peace before they all cameto join her.

One winter morning Peter woke up and looked out the window. Snowhad fallen during the night. It covered everything as far as hecould see.
After breakfast he put on his snowsuit and ranoutside. The snow was piled up very high along the street to make apath for walking.
Crunch, cruch, crunch, his feet sank into thesnow. He waled with his toes pointing out, like this:
He walked with his toes pointing in, likethat:
Then he dragged his feet s-l-o-w-l-y to maketracks.
And he found something sticking out of thesnow that made a new track.
It was a stick
-a stick that was just right for smacking asnow-covered tree.
Down fell the snow-plop!
-on top of Peter’s head.
He thought it would be fun to join the bigboys in their snowball fight, but he knew he wasn’t old enough-notyet.
So he made a smiling snowman,
And he made angles.
He pretented
He was a mountain-climber.
He climbed up
a great big tall
heaping mountain of snow-
and slid all the way down.
He picked up a handful of snow- and another, and still another. He packed it round and firm and put the snowballin his pocket for tomorrow. Then he went into his warm house.
He told his mother all about his adventureswhile she took off his wet socks.
And he thought and thought and thought aboutthem.
Before he got into bed he looked in hispocket. His pocket was empty. The snowball wasn’t there. He feltvery sad.
While he slept, he dreamed that the sun hadmelted all the snow away.
But when he woke up his dream was gone. The snowwas still everywhere. New snow was falling.
After breakfast he called to his friend fromacross the hall, and they went out together into the deep, deepsnow.

The Napping House
By Audrey Wood and Don Wood
For Maegerine Thompson Brewer
There is house,
a napping house,
where everyone is sleeping.
And in that house
there is bed,
a cozy bed
in a napping house,
where everyone is sleeping.
And on that bed
there is a granny,
a snoring granny
on a cozy bed
in a napping house,
where everyone is sleeping.
And on thatgranny
there ia child,
a dreaming child
on a snoring granny
on a cozy bed
in a napping house,
where everyone is sleeping.
And on that child
there is a dog,
a dozing dog
on a dreaming child
on a snoring granny
on a cozy bed
in a napping house,
where everyone is sleeping.
And on that dog
there is a cat,
a snoozing cat
on a dozing dog
on a dreaming child
on a snoring granny
on a cozy bed
in a napping house,
where everyone is sleeping.
And on that cat

a slumbering mouse
on asnoozing cat
on a dozing dog
on a dreaming child
on a snoring granny
on a cozy bed
in a napping house,
where everyone is sleeping.
And on that mouse
there is a flea...
Can it be?
A wakeful flea
on a slumbering mouse
on asnoozing cat
on a dozing dog
on a dreaming child
on a snoring granny
on a cozy bed
in a napping house,
where everyone is sleeping.
A wakeful flea
who bites the mouse,
who scares the cat,
who claws the dog,
who thumps the child,
who bumps the granny,
who breaks the bed,
in a napping house
where no one now is sleeping.

十一、Swimmy引进版 小黑鱼
A happy school of little fish lived in a corner of the seasomewhere. They were all red.Only one of themwas as black as amussel shell. He swam faster than his brothers and sisters. His namewas Swimmy.
One bad day a tuna fish, swift ,fierece and veryhungry, came darting through the waves. In one gulp he swallowedall
the little red fish.Only Swimmy escaped.
He swam away in the deep wet world. He was scared, lonely and very sad.
But the sea was full of wonderful creatures, andas he swam from marvel to marvel Swimmy was happy again.
He saw a medusa made of ranibow jelly.
a lobster ,who walked about like a water-movingmachine...
strange fish,pulled by an invisibelthread...
a forest of seaweeds growing from sugar-candyrocks....
an eelwhose tail was almosttoo far away to remember...
and sea anemones, who looked like pink palm treesswaying in the wind.
Then ,hidden in the dark shade of rocks andweeds,he saw a school of little fish ,just like his own.
\\\\\\\"let\\\\\\\'s go and swim and play and SEE things !\\\\\\\"hesaid happily.
\\\\\\\"We can\\\\\\\'t ,\\\\\\\"sid the little red fish .\\\\\\\"the bigfish will eat us all.\\\\\\\"
\\\\\\\"But you can\\\\\\\'t just lie there,\\\\\\\"said Swimmy.\\\\\\\"Wemust THINK of smomething.\\\\\\\"
Swimmy thought and thought and thought .
Then suddenly he said,\\\\\\\"I have it !\\\\\\\"
\\\\\\\"We are going to swim all together like thebiggest fish in the sea!\\\\\\\"
He taught them to swim close together ,each inhis own place ,
and when they had learned to swim like one giantfish ,he said,\\\\\\\"I\\\\\\\'ll be the eye.\\\\\\\"
And so they swam in the cool morning water and inthe midday sun and chased the big fish away.

十二、How to Make an Apple Pie and See theWorld引进版环游世界做苹果派
Making an apple pie is really very easy.First, get all the ingredients at the market. Mix the well, bake, and serve.
Unless, of course, the market isclosed.
In that case, go home and pack a suitcase. Take your shopping listand some walking shoes. Then catch a steamship bound for Europe.Use the six days on board to brush up on yourItalian.
If you time it right, you\\\\\\\'ll arrive in Italy at harvest time. Finda farm deep in the countryside. Gather some superb semolina wheat. An armful or two willdo.
Then hop a train to France and locate a chicken.
French chickens lay elegant eggs-and you want only the finestingredients for your pie. Coax the chicken to give you an egg.Better yet, bring the chicken with you. There\\\\\\\'s less chance ofbreaking the egg that way. Get to Sri Lanka any way youcan.
You can\\\\\\\'tmiss it. Sri Lanka is a pear-shaped island in the Indian Ocean. Thebest cinnamon in the world is made there from the bark of thenative kurundu tree and peel off some bark. If a leopard is nappingbeneath the tree, be veryquiet.
Hitch a rideto England. Make the acquaintance of a cow. You\\\\\\\'ll know she\\\\\\\'s anEnglish cow from her good manners and charming accent. Ask if youcan borrow a cup or two of milk. Even better, bring the whole cowwith you for the freshest possible results.
Stow away ona banana boat headed to Jamaica. On your way there, you can pick upsome salt. Fill a jar with salty seawater.
When theboat docks in Jamaica, walk to the nearest sugar plantation.Introduce yourself to everyone. Tell them about the pie you\\\\\\\'remaking. Then go into the fields and cit a few stalks of sugarcane.
Better fly home. You don\\\\\\\'t want the ingredients tospoil.
Wait a minute. Aren\\\\\\\'t you forgetting something? WHAT ABOUT THEAPPLES? Have the pilot drop you off inVermont.
You won\\\\\\\'thave to go far to find an apple orchard. Pick eight rosy applesfrom the top of the tree. Give one to the chicken, one to the cow,and eat one yourself. That leaves five for the pie. Then hurryhome.
Now all youhave to do is mill the wheat into flour, grind the kurundu barkinto cinnamon, evaporate the seawater from the salt, boil the sugarcane, persuade the chicken to lay an egg, milk the cow, churn themilk into butter, slice the apples, mix the ingredients, and bakethe pie. While the pie is cooling, invite some friends over toshare it withyou.
Remember that apple pie is delicious topped withvanilla ice cream, which you can get at the market. But if ithappens to be closed...
    YOU CAN EAT IT PLAIN!

十四、Seven blind mice 引进版   七只瞎老鼠
One day seven blind mice were surprised
to find a strange Something by theirpond.
”What is it?”they cried ,
and they all ran home.
On Monday,
Red Mouse went first to find out.
“It’s a pillar,”he said.
No one believe him.
On Tuesday,
Green Mouse set out.
He was the second to go.
“It’s a snake,”he said.

“No”
said Yellow Mouse on Wednesday.
“It’s a spear.”
He was the third in turn.
The fourth was Purple Mouse.
He went on Thursday.
It’s a great cliff,”he said.
Orange Mouse went on Friday,
the fifth to go.
It’s a Fan!
”he cried.”
”I felt it move.”
The sixth to go was Blue Mouse.
He went on Saturday and said,
”It’s nothing but a rope.”

But the others didn’t agree.
They began to argue.
“A snake!”
“A rope!”
“A fan!”
“A cliff!”
Until on Sunday,WhiteMouse,
the seventh mouse, went to the pond.
When she came upon the Something,
she ran up one side, and she ran down theother.
She ran across the top and from end to end.

“Ah,”said White Mouse.
”Now,I see.The Something is
as sturdy as a pillar,
supple as a snake,
wide as a cliff,
sharp as a spear,
breeze as a fan,
stringy as a rope,
but altogether the Something is…
an elephant.”

And when the other mice
ran up one side and down the other,
across the Something from end to end,
they agreed.
Now they saw,too.

The Mouse Moral:
Knowing in part may make a fine tale,
but wisdom comes from seeing the whole.

十六、Big Bear Hug 引进版大熊抱抱
There once was a bear so filled with love and happiness thatwhenever he roamed the forest and came across another living thing,he would give it a hug.
Everywhere he wandered, the bear shared hislove hug by hug.
He even hugged creatures that bears have beenknown to eat. This bear could meet the roundest little rabbit, andhe would just stop, smile and give it a great big hug.
No animal was too big… Toos mall… Too smelly…Or too scary to hug.
But what this bear loved to hug most were thetrees.
The bear never met a tree he did not like. Bigtrees… Little trees…
Apple trees… Pear trees…Peach trees. This bearhugged them all.
One day while the bear was trying to hug abeaver and a tree at the same time, he noticed a man with an axewalking into the forest.
The bear followed the man until he stopped atone of the tallest, oldest and most beautiful trees in the forest. The man spent so much time looking at this magnificent tree thatthe bear thought he must love trees, too.
But to the bear’s horror, the man started tochop the tree down.
For the first time in his life, the bear didn’tfeel like hugging at all.
Then, just as he was about to sink his teethinto the man, the bear stopped.
He realized that no matter how angry he was, hesimply could not eat the man. It just wasn’t in hisnature. The bearsighed. And then he decided to do what he did best.
He gave the man a HUG!
The man was not used to getting real big bearbugs, so once the bear let go, the man dropped his axe and ran far,far away.
And do you know what the bear did next?
The bear smiled and gave the tree a great bighug.

The tree fell muchbetter.

Animals should definitely not wear clothing
because it would be disastrous for aporcupine,
because a camel might wear it in the wrongplaces,
because a snake would lose it,
because a mouse could get lost in it,
because a sheep might find it terribly hot,
because it could be very messy for a pig,
because it might make life hard for a hen,
because a kangaroo would find it quiteunnecessary,
because a giraffe might look sort of silly,
because a goat would eat it for lunch,
because it would always be wet on a walrus,
because a moose could never manage,
because opossums might wear it upside down bymistake,
and most of all, because it might be veryembarrassing.

Once there were three baby owls: Sarah and Percy and Bill.
They lived in a hole in the trunk of a tree
with their Owl Mother.
The hole had twigs and
leaves and owl feathers in it.
It was their house.
One night they woke up and
their Owl Mother was GONE.
\"Where\'s Mommy?\" asked Sarah.
\"Oh my goodness!\" said Percy.
\"I want my mommy!\" said Bill.
The baby owls thought
(all owls think a lot) ━
\"I think she\'s gone hunting,\" said Sarah.
\"To get us our food!\" said Percy.
\"I want my mommy!\" said Bill.
But their Owl Mother didn\'t come.
The baby owls came out of
Their house, and they sat
On the tree and waited.
A big branch for Sarah,
A small branch for Percy,
and an old piece of ivy for Bill.
\"She\'ll be back,\" said Sarah.
\"Back soon!\" said Percy.
\"I want my mommy!\" said Bill.
It was dark in the woods and
they had to be brave, for things
moved all around them.
\"She\'ll bring us mice and
things that are nice,\" said Sarah.
\"I suppose so!\" said Percy.
\"I want my mommy!\" said Bill.
They sat and they thought
(all owls think a lot) ━
\"I think we should all
sit on my branch,\" said Sarah.
And they did,
all three together.
\"Suppose she got lost,\" said Sarah,
\"Or a fox got her!\" said Percy.
\"I want my mommy!\" said Bill.
And the baby owls closed
their owl eyes and wished their
Owl Mother would come.
AND SHE CAME.
Soft and silent, she swooped
through the trees
to Sarah and Percy
and Bill.
\"Mommy!\" they cried,
and they flapped and they danced,
and they bounced up and down
on their branch.
\"WHAT\'S ALL THE FUSS?\"
their Owl Mother asked.
\"You knew I\'d come back.\"
The baby owls thought
(all owls think a lot) ━
\"I knew it,\" said Sarah.
\"And I knew it\" said Percy.
\"I love my mommy!\" said Bill.

Sylvester Duncan lived with his mother and father at Acorn Road inOatsdale. One of his hobbies was collecting pebbles of unusualshape and color.
On a rainy Saturday during vacation he found aquite extraordinary one. It was flaming red, shiny, and perfectlyround, like a marble. As he was studying this remarkable pebble, hebegan toshiver, probably from excitement, andthe rain felt cold on his back, “I wish it would stop raining,” hesaid.
To his great surprise the rain stopped. Itdidn’t stop gradually as rains usually do, it CEASED. The dropsvanished on the way down, the clouds disappeared, everything wasdry, and the sun was shining as if rain had never existed.
In all his young life Sylvester had never hada wish gratified so quickly. It struck him that magic must be atwork, and he guessed that the magic must be in theremarkable-looking red pebble.(where indeed it was.) to make atest, he put the pebble on the ground and said, “I wish it wouldrain again.” Nothing happened. But when he said the same thingholding the pebble in his hoof, the sky turned black, there waslightning and a clap of thunder, and the rain came shootingdown.
“What a lucky day this is!” thought Sylvester.“From now on I can have anything I want. My father and mother canhave anything they want. My relatives, my friends, and anybody atall can have everything any body wants!”
He wished the sunshine back in the sky, and hewished a wart on his left hind fetlock would disappear, and it did,and he started home, eager to amaze his father and mother with hismagic pebble. He could hardly wait to see their faces. Maybe theywouldn’t even believe him at first.
As he was crossingStrawberry Hill, thinking of some of the many, many things he couldwish for, he was startled to see a mean, hungry lion looking rightat him from behind some tall grass. He was frightened. If he hadn’tbeen so frightened, he could have made the lion disappear, or hecould have wished himself safe at home with his father andmother.

He could have wished the lion would turn intoa butterfly or a daisy or a gnat. He could have wished many things, but he panicked and couldn’t t think carefully.
“I wish I were a rock,” he said, and he becamea rock.
The lion came bounding over, sniffed the rocka hundred times, walked around and around it, and went awayconfused, perplexed, puzzled, and bewildered. “I saw that littledonkey as clear as day. Maybe I’m going crazy,” he muttered.
And there was Sylvester, a rock on StrawberryHill, with the magic pebble lying right beside him on the ground, and he was unable to pick it up. “Oh, how I wish I were myselfagain,” he thought, but nothing happened. He had to be touching thepebble to make the magic work, but there was nothing he could doabout it.
His thoughts began to race like mad. He wasscared and worried. Being helpless, he felt hopeless. He imaginedall the possibilities, and eventually he realized that his onlychance of becoming himself again was for someone to find the redpebble and to wish that the rock next to it would be a donkey.Someone would surely find the red pebble—it was so bright andshiny—but what on earth would make them wish that a rock were adonkey? The chance was one in a billion at best.
Sylvester fell asleep. What else could he do?Night came with many stars.
Meanwhile, back at home, Mr. and Mrs. Duncanpaced the floor, frantic with worry. Sylvester had never come homelater than dinner time. Where could he be? They stayed up all nightwondering what had happened, expecting that Sylvester would surelyturn up by morning. But he didn’t, of course. Mrs. Duncan cried alot and MR. Duncan did his best to soothe her. Both longed to havetheir dear son with them.
“I will never scold Sylvester again as long asI live,” said Mrs. Duncan, “no matter what he does.”
At dawn, they went about inquiring of all theneighbors.
They talked to all the children—the puppies, the kittens, the colts, the piglets. No one had seen Sylvestersince the day before yesterday.
They went to police. The police could not findtheir child.

All the dogs in Oatsdale went searching forhim. They sniffed behind every rock and tree and blade of grass, into every nook and gully of the neighborhood and beyond, but foundnot a scent of him. They sniffed the rock on Strawberry Hill, butit smelled like a rock. It didn’t smell like Sylvester.
After a month of searching the same placesover and over again, and inquiring of the same animals over andover again, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan no longer knew what to do. Theyconcluded that something dreadful must have happened and that theywould probably never see their son again. (though all the time hewas less than a mile away.)
They tried their best to be happy, to go abouttheir usual ways. But their usual ways included Sylvester and theywere always reminded of him. They were miserable. Life had nomeaning for them any more.
Night followed day and day followed night overand over again. Sylvester on the hill woke up less and less often. When he was awake, he was only hopeless and unhappy.
He felt he would be a rock forever and hetired to get used to it, he went into an endless sleep. The daysgrew colder. Fall come with the leaves changing color. Then theleaves fell and the grass bent to the ground.
Then it was winter. The winds blew this wayand that. It snowed. Mostly, the animals stayed indoors, living onthe food they had stored up.
One day a wolf sat on the rock that wasSylvester and howled and howled because he was hungry.
Then the snows melted. The earth warmed up inthe spring sun and things budded
Leaves were on the trees again. Flowers showedtheir young faces.
One day in may, Mr. Duncan insisted that hiswife go with him on a picnic. “Let’s cheer up,” he said. “let ustry to live again and be happy even though Sylvester, our angle, isno longer with us.” They went to Strawberry Hill.
Mrs. Duncan sat down on the rock. The warmthof his own mother sitting on him woke Sylvester up from his deepwinter sleep. How he wanted to shout, “Mother! Father! It’s me,Sylvester, I’m right here!” but he couldn’t talk. He had no voice. He was stone-dumb.

Mr. Duncan walked aimlessly about while Mrs.Duncan set out the picnic food on the rock—alfalfa sandwiches, pickled oats, sassafras salad, timothy compote. Suddenly Mr. Duncansaw the red pebble. “what a fantastic pebble!” he exclaimed.“Sylvester would haveloved it for hiscollection.” He put the pebble on the rock.
They sat down to eat. Sylvester was now aswide awake as a donkey that was a rock could possibly be. Mrs.Duncan felt some mysterious excitement.” You know, Father,” shesaid suddenly, “I have the strangest feeling that our dearSylvester is still alive and not far away.”
“I am, I am!” Sylvester wanted to shout, buthe couldn’t. if only he had realized that the pebble resting on hisback was the magic pebble!
“Oh, how I wish he were here with us on thislovely May day,” said Mrs. Duncan. Mr. Duncan looked sadly at theground. “Don’t you wish it too, Father?” she said. He looked at heras if to say,” How can you ask such a question?”
Mr. and Mrs. Duncan looked at each other withgreat sorrow.
“Iwish I were myself again,I wish I were my real self again!” thought Sylvester.
And in less than an instant, he was!
You can imagine the scene that followed—theembraces, the kisses, the questions, the answers, the loving looks, and the fond exclamations!
When they had eventually calmed down a bit,and had gotten home, Mr. Duncan put the magic pebble in an ironsafe. Some day they might want to use it, but really, for now, whatmore could they wish for? They all had all that theywanted.

Can you do it?
I can do it.
I am a cat and I arch my back
Can you do it?
I can do it.
I am a crocodile and I wriggle my hips.
Can you do it?
I can do it.
I am a camel and I bend my knees.
Can you do it?
I can do it.
I am a donkey and I kick my legs.
Can you do it?
I can do it.
I am an elephant and I stomp my foot.
Can you do it?
I can do it.
I am I and I wiggle my toe.
Can you do it?
I can do it! I can do it!

二十八、A Picture for Harold’sroom引进版   阿罗房间要挂画
http://img12.360buyimg.com/n2/13333/b0ce8885-a26b-496f-b997-99769ed4f8f5.jpg                              http://img32.ddimg.cn/26/20/20459762-1_l.jpg

“I want a picture to put on my wall,” said Harold.
He drew a house with his purple crayon.
More houses made a little town.
It was far away.
The town had woods and hills around it.
And it was at the end of a long road.
“It will look pretty in the moonlight,” saidHarold.
And he stepped up into the picture to draw themoon.
He looked down at the houses.
“I am a GIANT!” he said.
But a giant would scare all the people intown.
“It is good no one woke up and saw me,” saidHarold.
He walked over the hills.
“How big I am!” he said.
Harold’s head was above the clouds.
With a few steps he came to the end of theland.
And at the end of any land there is water.
“It is the sea,” said Harold.
“There are sea gulls.”
Harold was big enough to walk through thesea.
A great big ship went by.
It was an ocean liner.
A big whale came up in the waves, spoutingwater.
And just ahead of Harold was an old sailingship.
He easily caught up with it and passed it.
The sea ended against a steep hill.
Harold needed some rocks to step on.
He climbed out of the sea and onto thehill.
Then he saw that the ship was too near therocks.
He put up a lighthouse to show thesailors.
And he went on his way over highmountains.
Harold was taller than the highestmountain.
“I am higher than anything!” he said.
Then, suddenly, he thought of airplanes.
Harold ducked his head just in time.
It was a big jet plane, flying very fast.
There might have been a bad accident.
Harold found a low place in the mountains.
It was a good place for a railroad to gothrough.
It came out onto a long flat field.
Harold put some birds and flowers near thetracks.
“People like to see things from trains,” hesaid.
He went on, drawing tracks and birds andflowers.
And he had to keep looking out for trains.
It was a big job for a small boy.
And all of a sudden he saw how small he hadbecome.
He was half the size of a daisy!
He was smaller than a bird!
How would he get home?
He could not wade home through the ocean.
He could not climb those high mountains.
And, just then, he fell into a mouse hole.
“Excuse me,” he said to the mouse.
Then Harold sat down on a pebble to think.
After a minute or two he stood up again.
“This is only a picture!”
he said.
And he took his crayon
and he crossed it out.
“I am not big or little.
I am my usual size!”
But how could he be sure about that?
At home he was always his usual size.
So he drew the door of his room.
There was a long mirror on the back of thedoor.
“Yes,” said Harold.
“I am my usual size.”
He was glad to be back in his room. He wastired.
But he had no pictur to hang on his wall.
So, before he went to bed,
he drew another picture.

二十九、The Missing Piece Meets the BIGO   引进版    失落的一角
http://img11.360buyimg.com/n2/15962/3eb7a82c-a73d-4eb5-8241-324be078ee6a.jpg
The missing piece sat alone ...
waiting for someone to come along
and take it somewhere
Some fit...
but could not roll.
Others could roll but did not fit.
One didn\'t know a thing about fitting.
And another didn’t know a thing aboutanything.
One was too delicate.
POP!
One put it on a pedestal...
and left it there.
Some had too many pieces missing.
Some had too many pieces, period.
It learned to hide from the hungry ones.
More came.
Some looked too closely.
Others rolled right by without noticing.
Hi..?
It tried to make itself more attractive...
It didn\'t help.
It tried being flashy
but that just frightened away the shy ones.
At last one came along that fit just right.
But all of a sudden...
the missing piece began to grow!
And grow!
\" I didn\'t know you were going to grow.\"
\" I didn\'t know it either,\"
said the missing piece.
\" I\'m looking for \" my missing piece, one thewon\'t increase...\"
BYE...
SIGH...
And then one day,
one came along who looked different.
\" What do you want of me?\"
asked the missing piece.
\" Nothing.\"
\" What do you need from me?\"
\" Who are you?\" asked the missing piece.
\" I am the Big O,\"
said the Big O.
\" I think you are the one, I have been waitingfor,\"
said the missing piece.
\" May be I am your missing piece.\"
\" But I am not missing a piece,\"
said the Big O.
\" There is no place you would fit.\"
\" That is too bad,\" said the missing piece.
\" I was hoping that perhaps I could roll withyou...\"
\" You cannot roll with me,\"
said the Big O.
\" but perhaps you can roll by yourself.\"
\" By myself?
A missing piece cannot roll by itself.\"
\" Have you ever tried\"
asked the Big O.
\" But I have sharp corners,\"
said the missing piece.
\" I am not shaped for rolling.\"
\" Corners wear off,\"
said the Big O.
\" and shapes change. Anyhow, I must say good-bye.Perhaps we will meet again...\"
And away it rolled.
The missing piece was alone again.
For a long time it just sat there.
Then...
slowly...
it lifted itself up on one end...
...and flopped over.
PLOP!
Then lift...pull...flop...
it began to move forward...
And soon its edges began to wear off...
lift pull flop lift pull flop..
and its shape began to change...
and then it was bumping instead offlopping...
and then it was bouncing instead ofbumping...
and then it was rolling instead ofbouncing...
And it didn\'t know where and it didn\'tcare.
It was rolling!

The Carrot Seed
By Ruth Krauss, illustrations by CrockettJohnson
A little boy planted a carrot seed.
His mother said, “I’m afraid it won’t comeup.”
His father said, “I’m afraid it won’t comeup.”
And his big brother said, “It won’t comeup.”
Every day the little boy pulled up the weedsaround the seed and
sprinkled the ground with water. But nothing cameup. And
nothing came up.
Everyone kept saying it wouldn’t come up. But hestill pulled up
the weeds around it every day and sprinkled theground with
water.
And then, one day, a carrot came up just as thelittle boy had
known it would.

三十一、OWEN            引进版阿文的小毯子

Owen had a fuzzy yellow blanket.
He’d had it since he was a baby.
He loved it with all his heart.
Fuzzy goes where I go,”said Owen.
And Fuzzy did.
Upstairs, downstairs, in-between.
Inside, outside, upside down.
“Fuzzy likes what I like,”said Owen.
And Fuzzy did.
Orange juice, grape juice, chocolate milk.
Ice cream, peanut butter, applesauce cake.
Isn’t he getting a little old to be carryingthat thing around?”asked Mrs Tweezers. “Haven’t you heard of theBlanket Fairy?”
Owen’s parents hadn’t.
Mrs. Tweezers filled them in.
That night Owen’s parents told Owen to putFuzzy under his pillow.
In the morning Fuzzy would be gone, bu theBlanket Fairy would leave an absolutely wonderful, positivelyperfect, especially terrific big-boy gift in its place.
Owen stuffed Fuzzy inside his pajama pants andwent to sleep.
“No Blanket Fairy,”said Owen in themorning.
“No Kidding,”said Owen’s mother.
“No wonder,”said Owen’s father.

“Fuzzy’s dirty,”said Owen’s mother.
“Fuzzy’s torn and ratty,”said Owen’sfather.
“No,”said Owen. “Fuzzy is perfect.”
And Fuzzy was.
Fuzzy played Captain Plunger with Owen.
Fuzzy helped Owen become invisible.
And Fuzzy was essential when it came to nailclippings and haircuts and trips to the dentist.
“Can’t be a baby forever,”said Mrs.Tweezers.
“Haven’t you heard of the vinegar trick?”
Owen’s parents hadn’t.
Mrs. Tweezers filled them in.
When Owen wasn’t looking, his father dippedOwen’s favourite corner of Fuzzy into a jar of vinegar.
Owen sniffed it and smelled I and sniffedit.
He picked a new favourite corner.
Then he rubbed the smelly corner all arroundhis sandbox, buried it in the garden, and dug it up again.
“Good as new,”said Owen.
Fuzzy wasn’t very fuzzy anymore.
But Owen didn’t mind.
He carried it.
And Wore it.
And dragged it.
He sucked it.
And Hugged it.
And twisted it.
“What are we going to do?”asked Owen’smother.
“School is starting soon,”said Owen’sfather.
“Can’t bring a blanket to school,”said MrsTweezers.
“Haven’t you heard of saying no?”
Owen’s parents hadn’t.
Mrs. Tweezers filled them in.
“I have to bring Fuzzy to school,”saidOwen.
“No.”said Owen’s mother.
“No.”said Owen’s father.
Owen buried his face in Fuzzy.
He started to cry and would not stop.
“Don’t worry,”said Owen’s mother.
“It’ll be all right”said Owen’s father.
And then suddenly Owen’s mother said, “I have anidea!”
It was an absolutely wonderful, positivelyperfect, especially terrific idea.
First she snipped.
And then she sewed.
Then she snipped again and sewed some more.
Snip, snip, snip.
Sew, sew, sew.
“Dry your eyes.”
“Wipe your nose.”
Horray, hooray, hooray!
Now Owen carries one of his not/so/fuzzyhandkerchiefs with him where he goes.
And Mrs. Tweezers doesn’t say a thing.

三十三、Rainbow Fish to theRescue!引进版   条纹鱼得救了
http://ec4.images-amazon.com/images/I/51F06XWn+KL._AA115_.jpg
A long way out in the deep blue sea there swam a school of fish. Not just ordinary fish—each one had a sparkling silver scale.
Ever since Rainbow Fish had shared his scales, these fish had done everything together. They swam together. Theyeven rested together, floating in the shadows of the reef.

“ Do you have to have a special scale?” thelittle striped fish asked.
“Of course you do!” said the fish with thejagged fins. “Come on, let’s play!” he called to the others. “Don’t worry about him.”

Then all the fish turned and went back totheir game.
Rainbow Fish hesitated. He was afraid oflosing his new friends, so he didn’t dare stand up to the fish withthe jagged fins. Feeling a little ashamed, Rainbow Fish reluctantlyswam off to join the others.

The little striped fish floated all alone atthe edge of the reef. He looked sad as he watched the game. Theother fish were having such fun—darting and diving in the deep bluesea, their shiny scales sparkling.

Rainbow Fish remembered what it felt like tohave no friends and how lonely he had been when all the fish hadignored him. He had been so proud of all his glittering scales thathe had refused to share them. No wonder nobody had wanted to playwith him.
But now his friends did want him to play, andRainbow Fish soon was caught up in the game.
No one was paying attention when dangerentered the reef….

Suddenly a shark shot like an arrow into themiddle of the school. The fish darted in every direction andmanaged to escape to their hiding place.

There, in a narrow crack in the reef, theshark could not reach them. They were safe.
But the little striped fish wasn’t. RainbowFish couldn’t keep still, he was so worried.
“What’s wrong?” asked the skinny fish.
“It’s the little striped fish,” said RainbowFish. “He’s all alone out there. We’ve got to help him!”

With that, Rainbow Fish left the safety of thehiding place. “Let’s go !” he called.
The other fish trembled with fear, but theyknew what they had to do. They sped out of the crack after RainbowFish.

They soon saw the shark. And there was thelittle striped fish, swimming and spinning away from his jaws.Rainbow Fish could see that the little fish’s strength was failingfast.
“Hurry!” shouted Rainbow Fish, and all thefish swarmed straight for the shark. This confused the shark, because usually fish swam away from him. He turned this way andthat, snapping right and left until he was dizzy. The shark almostgot the fish with the jagged fins, but he escaped with just a fewscratches.

Quietly, Rainbow Fish led the little stripedfish to safety.
“You were really brave,” said the littlestriped fish. “Thanks for saving my life.”
Together, they watched as the exhausted sharkgave up and swam away.

When all the fish returned safely to the reef, they welcomed the little striped fish.
“Why don’t you stay and play with us?” RainbowFish offered.
“How can I play flash-tag when I don’t have ashiny scale?” asked the little striped fish.
“We can play fin-tag instead!” said the fishwith the jagged fin. “Touch a fin and you’re it!”
All the fish cheered, and then they swam offto play together in the deep blue sea.

The Gruffalo said that no grufflao should
Ever set Foot in the deep dark wood.
\"Why not? Why not?\" \"Because if you do
The Big Bad Mouse will be after you.
I met hime once, \" said the gruffalo,
\"I met him a long long time ago.\"
\" What does he look like? Tell us, Dad.
Is he terribly big and terribly bad?\"
\" I can\'t quite remember,\" the Gruffalosaid.
The he thought for a minute and scratched hishead.
\" The Big Bad Mouse is terribly strong
And his scaly tail is terribly long.
His eyes are like pools of terrible fire
And his terrible whiskers are tougher thanwire.\"
One snowy night when the Gruffalo snored
The Gruffalo\'s Child was feeling bored.
The Gruffalo\'s Child was feeling brave
So she tiptoed out of the gruffalo cave.
The snow fell fast and the wind blew wild.
Into the wood went the Gruffalo\'s Child.
Aha! Oho! Atrail in the snow!
Whose is this trail and where does it go?
A tail poked out of a logpile house.
Could this be the tail of the Big BadMouse?
Out slid the creature. His eyes were small
And he didn\'t have whiskers- no,none atall.
\"You\'re not the Mouse.\" \"Bit I,\" said thesnake.
\"He\'s down by the lake -eating gruffalocake.\"
The snow fell fast and the wind blew wild.
\"I\'m not scared,\" said the Gruffalo\'sChild.
Aha! Oho! Marks in the snow!
Whose are these claw marks? Where do theygo?
Two eyes gleamed out of a treetop house.
Could these be the eyes of the Big BadMouse?
Down flew the creature. his tail was short
And he didn\'t have whiskers of any sort.
\"You\'r not the Mouse.\" \"Toowhoo,not I,
But he\'s somewhere nearby, eating gruffalopie.\"
The snow fell fast and the wind blew wild.
\"I\'m not scared,\" said the Gruffalo\'sChild.
Aha! Oho! A track in the snow!
Whose is this track and where does it go?
Whiskers at last! And an underground house!
Could this be the home of the Big BadMouse?
Out slunk the creature. His eyes weren\'tfiery.
His tail wasn\'t scaly. His whiskers weren\'twiry.
\"You\'re not the Mouse.\" \" Oh no, not me.
He\'s under a tree- drinking grufflao tea.\"
\"It\'s all a trick!\" said the Gruffalo\'sChild
As she sat on a stump where the snow lypiled.
\"I don\'t believe in the Big Bad Mouse...
\"But here comes a little on, out of hishouse!
Not big, Not bad, but a mouse at least-
You\'ll taste good as a midnight feast.\"
\"Wait!\" said the mouse. \"Before you eat,
There\'s a friend of mine that you ought tomeet.
If you\'ll let me hop ono a hazel twig
I\'ll beckon my friend so bad and big.\"
The Gruffalo\'s Child unclenched her fist.
\"The Big Bad Mouse- so he does exist!\"
The mouse hopped into the hazel tree.
He beckoned, then said,\"Just wait and see.\"
Out came the moon. It was bright and round.
A terrible shadow fell onto the ground.
Who is this creature so big, bad andstrong?
His tail and his whiskers are terriblylong.
His ears are enormous, and over hisshoulder
He carries a nut as big as a boulder!
\"The Big Bad Mouse!\"yelled the Gruffalo\'sChild.
The mouse jumped down from the twig andsmiled.
Aha! Oho! prints in the snow.
Whose are these footprints? where do theygo?
The footprints led to the gruffalo cave
Where the Gruffalo\'s Child was a bit lessbrave.
The Gruffalo\'s CHild was a bit lessbored...
And the gruffalo snored
and snored and snored.

三十六、The true story of the 3 littlepigs   引进版三只小猪的真实故事--启发系列绘本
http://ec4.images-amazon.com/images/I/6135HaPHP3L._AA115_.jpg
Everybody knows the story of the three little pigs. Or at leastthey think they do. But I’ll let you in on a little secret. Nobodyknows the real story, because nobody hs ever heard my side of thestory.
I’m the wolf. Alexander T. Wolf.
You can call me Al.
I don’t know how this whole Big Bad Wolf thinggot started, but it’s all wrong.
Maybe it’s because of our diet.
Hey, it’s not my fault whoves eat cute littleanimals like bunnies and sheep and pigs. That’s just the way weare. If cheeseburgers were cute, folks would probably think youwere Big and Bad, too.

But like I was saying,
The whole Big Bad Wolf thing is all wrong. Thereal story is about a sneeze and a cup of sugar.
This is the real story.
Way back in Once Upon a Time time, I wasmaking a birthday cake for my dar old granny. I had a terriblesneezing cold. I ran out of sugar.
So I walked down the street to ask my neighborfor a cup of sugar. Now this neighbor was a pig.
And he wasn’t too bright, eight.
He had built his whole house out of straw.
Can you believe it? I mean who in his right mindwould build a house of straw?
So of course the minute I knocked on the door,it fell right in. I didn’t want to just walk into someone else’shouse. So I called,”Little Pig, Little Pig, are you in?”Noanswer.
I was just about to go home without the cup ofsugar for my dear old granndy’s birthday cake.
That’s when my nose started to itch.
I felt a sneeze coming on.
Well I huffed.
And I snuffed.
And I sneezed a great sneeze.
And you know what? That whole darn straw housefell down. And right in the middle of the pile of straw was theFirst Little Pig-dead as a doornail.
He had been home the whole time.
It seemed like a shame to leave a perfectlygood ham dinner lying there in the straw. So I ate it up.
Think of it as a big cheeseburger just lyingthere.
I was feeling alittlebetter. But I still didn’t have my cup of sugar. So I went to thenext neighbor’s house.
This neighbor was the First Little Pig’sbrother.
He was a little smarter, but no much.
He had built his house of sticks.
I rang the bell on the stick house.
Nobody answered.
I called,”Mr. Pig, Mr. Pig, are you in?”
He yelled back, “Go away wolf. You can’t come in.I’m shaving the hairs on my chinny chin chin.”
I had just grabbed the doorknob when I feltanother sneeze coming on.
I huffed. And I snuffed. And I tried to cover mymouth, but I sneezed a great sneeze.
And you’re not going to believe it, but hisguy’s houe fell down just like his brother’s.
When the dust cleared, there was the SecondLittle Pig-dead as a doornail. Wolf’s honor.
Now you know food will spoil if you just leaveit out in the open. So I did the only thing there was to do.
I had dinner again.
Think of it as a second helping.
I was getting awfully full.
But my cold was feeling a little better.
And I still didn’t have that cup of sugar for mydear old granny’s birthday cake.
So I went to the next house. This guy was theFirst and Second Little Pig’s brother. He must have been the brainsof the family.
He had built his house of bricks.
I knocked on the brick house. No answer.
I called, “Mr. Pig, Mr. Pig, are you in?”
And do you know what that rude little porkeranswered?
“Get out of here, Wolf. Don’t bother meagain.”
Talk about impolite!
He probably had a whole sackful of sugar.
And he wouldn’t give me even one little cup formy dear sweet old granny’s birthday cake.
What a pig!
I was just about to go home and maybe make a nicebirthday card instead of a cake, when I felt my cold comingon.
I huffed.
And I snuffed.
And I sneezed once again.
Then the Third little pig yelled, “And your oldgranny can sit on a pin!”
Now I’m usually a pretty calm fellow. But whensomebody talks about my granny like that, I go a littlecrazy.
When the cops drove up, of course I was trying tobreak down this Pig’s door. And the whole time I was huffing andpuffing and sneezing and making a real scene.
The rest, as they say, is history.
The news reporters found out about the twopigs I had for dinner. They figured a sick guy going to borrow acup of sugar didn’t sound very exciting.
So they jazzed up the story with all of that“Huff and puff and blow your house down.”
And they made me the Big Bad Wolf.
That’s it.
The real story. I was framed.
But maybe you could loan me a cup ofsugar.

There once lived a wolf who loved to eat more than anything elsein the world. As soon as he finished one meal, he began to think ofthe next.
One day the wolf got a terrible craving forchicken stew.
All day long he walked across the forest insearch of a delicious chicken. Finally he spotted one.
\"Ah, she is just perfect for my stew,\" hethought.
The wolf crept closer. But just as he wasabout to grab his prey...
he had another idea.
\"If there were just some way to fatten thisbird a little more,\" he thought, \"there would be all the more stewfor me.\" So...
the wolf ran home to his kitchen, and he beganto cook.
First he made a hundred scrumptious pancakes. Then, late at night, he left them on the chicken\'s porch.
\"Eat well, my pretty chicken,\" he cried. \"Getnice and fat for my stew!\"
The next night he broughtahundred scrumptious doughnuts.
\"Eat well, my pretty chicken,\" he cried. \"Getnice and fat for my stew!\"
And on the next night hebroughta scrumptious cake weighing a hundredpounds.
\"Eat well, my pretty chicken,\" he cried. \"Getnice and fat for my stew!\"
At last, all was ready. This was the night hehad been waiting for. He put a large stwe pot on the fire and setout joyfully to find his dinner.
\"That chicken must be as fat as a balloon bynow,\" he thought. \"Let\'s see.\"
But as he peeked into the chicken\'shouse...
the door opened suddenly and the chickenscreeched, \"Oh, so it was you, Mr. Wolf!\"
\"Children, children! Look, the pancakes andthe doughnuts and that scrumptious cake ---- they weren\'t fromSanta Claus! All those presents were from Uncle Wolf!\"
The baby chicks jumped all over the wolf andgave him a hundred kisses.
\"Oh, thank you, Uncle Wolf! You\'re the bestcook in the world!\"
Uncle Wolf didn\'t have chicken stew that nightbut Mrs. Chicken fixed him a nice dinner anyway.
\"Aw, shucks,\" he thought, as he walked home,\"maybe tomorrow I\'ll bake the little critters a hundred scrumptiouscookies!\"

谢谢,幸亏在这看到了母鸡散步的全文,敢情这书就是一连串动词,要是买翻译版就完全没意义了。
