Daisy and Poppy’s Playgroup
Somewhere hidden amongst thorny brambles is a little kingdom of elves and fairies.
Everyone who lives here is very, very small.
BEN:I’m Ben Elf. (Trumpet Toots)
HOLLY:And I'm Princess Holly.
Come on, let's play.
BEN: Wait for us!
BEN AND HOLLY’S LITTLE KINGDOM
Today's adventure starts at the little castle.
Daisy and Poppy’s Playgroup
DAISY&POPPY: Bang! Bang! Bang!
KING THISTLE: Ah! Daisy! Poppy!
DAISY& POPPY: Bang! Bang!
HOLLY: Daisy! Poppy! Don't do that!
DAISY&POPPY: Bang! Bang!
QUEEN THISTLE: What's all the noise?
HOLLY: Mummy, the twins are being naughty.
QUEEN THISTLE: Shouldn't they be at playgroup?
NANNY PLUM: There hasn't been any playgroup for weeks now.
QUEEN THISTLE: Really? Why not?
BEN: The problem was all the toddlers were together in one place.
QUEEN THISTLE: Isn't that the idea of a playgroup?
NANNY PLUM: Well, yes. But just think. There was Raspberry, even her wand is rude.
(Blows raspberry) And Nettle, she has a stinging nettle in her hat. And Tarquin.
TARQUIN: Tarquin like playgroup.
NANNY PLUM: And Daisy and Poppy.
DAISY&POPPY: Bang! Bang! (Both giggle)
NANNY PLUM: All together, they're quite a handful.
QUEEN THISTLE: What happened to their nice teacher, Mrs Fotheringill?
MRS FOTHERINGILL: Good morning, children. My name is Mrs Fotheringill.
HOLLY: They made her disappear.
QUEEN THISTLE: Disappear?!
NANNY PLUM: All they found was her shoes. Now no-one wants to be the teacher and the nursery's closed.
QUUEEN THISTLE: What a lot of fuss about nothing! I know, I'll be the playgroup teacher. And Nanny Plum can be my assistant.
NANNY PLUM: Uh? m, I'd like to be, but I'm really very busy.
QUEEN THISTLE: I’ll call my friend, Mrs Elf, then. SHE can be my assistant.
(Phone rings)
MRS ELF: Hello, Mrs Elf speaking.
QUEEN THISTLE: Hello? It's Queen Thistle.
MRS ELF: Oh, Your Majesty.
QUEEN THISTLE: I wonder if you'd be interested in a new job.
MRS ELF: A job? Yes!
QUEEN THISTLE: You'll be working with me.
MRS ELF: That would be an honour, Queen Thistle.
QUEEN THISTLE: As assistant teacher at the playgroup.
(Silence)
Hello? Hello? Oh, the phone must be broken. Still, she sounds very keen. I'll go round and fetch her.
HOLLY: Are you sure you want to be the teacher, Mummy?
BEN: The toddlers can be very naughty.
QUEEN THISTLE: No problem, I'll have Mrs Elf to help me.
Hello? Is Mrs Elf there?
MRS ELF: Uh, sorry, but Mrs Elf had to go away suddenly. She is not here.
(Ben opens the door)
BEN: Oh, hello, Mum.
MRS ELF: Oh, hello. I... just got back.
QEEN THISTLE: Perfect! Daisy and Poppy are so pleased you're going to help at playgroup.
MRS ELF: Well, as long as it's just Daisy and Poppy.
QUEEN THISTLE: Oh, no, it'll be all their friends as well.
MRS ELF: Lovely.
Oh, it's locked. What a shame! No playgroup.
QUEEN THISTLE: Don't worry, Mrs Elf. I have the key.
MRS ELF: Lovely.
QUEEN THISTLE: A quick tidy and we'll soon have it shipshape.
HOLLY: Oh, look!
BEN: Mrs Fotheringill's shoes.
HOLLY: Where did she go?
MRS ELF: No-one knows, she just disappeared.
QUEEN THISTLE: Come along, the toddlers will be here in a minute.
ELF 1: We heard playgroup's reopening. We didn't quite believe it, though.
FAIRY 1: So what poor person is the new teacher?
QUEEN THISTLE: Uh, me, actually.
MRS ELF: And I'm the assistant teacher.
ELF 2: Tarquin's been really missing playgroup.
TARQUIN: Tarquin like playgroup.
FAIRY 1: So is Raspberry.
(TARQUIN&RASPBERRY blow raspberries)
ELF 1: And Nettle.
QEEN THISTLE: Come in, children.
MRS ELF: Ah, she stung me!
QUEEN THISTLE: Hello, I'm your new nursery teacher, and this is my assistant, Mrs... Oh.
HOLLY: She's hiding under the desk.
MRS ELF: Uh, hello, children. I'm Mrs Elf.
QUEEN THISTLE: Relax, Mrs Elf. There's nothing to worry about with me in charge. Now, children, let's...
(Children laugh)
(Gasps)
BEN: They've made the queen disappear.
MRS ELF: All they've left is her panties.
HOLLY: Children, what have you done with the queen?
NETTLE: Gone, all gone.
(Children laugh)
(Phone rings)
QUEEN THISTLE: Hello?
MRS ELF: Oh, Queen Thistle!
QUEEN THISTLE: The toddlers have magicked me somewhere. But I'll be back as soon as I've worked out where I am. You'll have to take the class until I get back.
MRS ELF: Oh, OK. Bye.
HOLLY: Mrs Elf, you're the teacher now.
MRS ELF: Yes. Don't panic, Mrs Elf. You can do this. You're in charge.
BEN: Maybe we should take away their wands.
MRS ELF: Good idea, Ben. Right, everyone, we are going to play a game. It's called Hide The Wands. We'll take the wands and hide them in this drawer.
Good. Now, let's draw a lovely picture. What shall we draw? Butterflies? Bunny rabbits?
TARQUIN: Dinosaurs! Tarquin like dinosaurs.
MRS ELF: Oh. OK.
NETTLE: Big teeth! (Laughs)
MRS ELF: Good. Now use your imaginations. Let's all close our eyes and imagine what it would be like in the time of the dinosaurs.
HOLLY: Uh, are you sure this is a good idea?
MRS ELF: It's keeping them happy and quiet. Imagine the fiery volcanoes and thick jungle and dinosaurs. Pretend you're really there.
BEN: What was that? I think the school moved.
HOLLY: Daisy, Poppy, did you just do something?
MRS ELF: It's alright, Holly. They're being very good. And it's nearly home time.
KING THISTLE: How lovely and quiet! Why is it so different today?
NANNY PLUM: It's time to pick up the twins.
KING THISTLE: Ah! The twins! That's why it's quiet. Right, Nanny, I'm on my way.
Hello! Have you come to pick up your toddlers?
ALL: Yes.
KING THISTLE: Ah, where's the playgroup?
ALL: It's gone.
KING THISTLE: Wow! Last time the toddlers just made the teacher disappear. This time it's the whole school.
(Bell rings)
HOLLY: Home time!
MRS ELF: Phew! Well done, Mrs Elf. That wasn't too bad.
BEN: Apart from the queen disappearing.
MRS ELF: Oh, yes, the queen.
(Children giggle)
MRS ELF: See you next time, children. Don't run! Oh! My goodness!
HOLLY: Daisy, Poppy, where have you sent us?
CHILDREN: Dinosaur! Dinosaur!
MRS ELF: Oh, no! They've sent us back in time!
BEN: To the land of the dinosaurs!
HOLLY: How are we going to get home again?
MRS ELF: Let's not panic, there's an answer to everything. OK, we're stuck in the land of the dinosaurs, 65 million years in the past.
BEN: So, what's the answer?
MRS ELF: I’m thinking.
KING THISTLE: I have an idea, I might be able to magic the school back.
ELF 1: It's worth a try.
KING THISTLE: Abracadabra!
MRS ELF: The main thing is not to panic.
HOLLY: Ah! The school's gone!
BEN: Shall we start panicking now, Mum?
MRS ELF: Yes.
ELF 1: It's the school.
ALL: Hooray!
KING THISTLE: Welcome back, everybod... Oh, there's no-one here.
MRS ELF: Trapped in the land of the dinosaurs with no way back. Don't worry, there must be an answer. Think, Mrs Elf, think.
(Rustling)
BEN: What's that? Is it a dinosaur?
MRS ELF: I’m not sure...
(Moans)
BEN: It's a cave woman!
MRS FOTHERINGILL: Shoes... Shoes...
MRS ELF: Wait a minute, it's Mrs Fotheringill!
HOLLY: The lost teacher.
MRS FOTHERINGILL: I’ve been stuck here for ages. Thank goodness you've finally come to rescue me.
BEN: Well, we sort of need rescuing ourselves, actually.
MRS FOTHERINGILL: Oh.
HOLLY: If only Mummy was here.
MRS ELF: Yes, the Queen could magic us home.
MRS FOTHERINGILL: The Queen IS here. I saw her this morning.
ALL: Hooray!
MRS FOTHERINGILL: But she was carried off by one of those pterodactyl things. Leaving just her wand and her cell phone.
MRS ELF: Mrs Fotheringill, do you know where the pterodactyls live?
MRS FOTHERINGILL: They live on Scary Mountain. I could take you there if you want.
MRS ELF: Alright, come on, children. Hold hands! Stay together!
HOLLY: Mrs Fotheringill, why is it called Scary Mountain?
(saw the scary mountain) Oh. I see.
MRS ELF: Look! The Queen!
QUEEN THISTLE: Hello, everyone.
HOLLY: Mummy, are you alright?
QUEEN THISTLE: Yes, but I'm trapped. It won't lift up its foot.
BEN: I’ll climb up and tickle the pterodactyl. Elves are good at tickling pterodactyls.
And I'm an elf. (Trumpet Toots)
QUEEN THISTLE: Careful, Ben.
BEN: Tickle, tickle, tickle.
(Laughs)
Tickle, tickle.
(Laughs)
ALL: Hooray!
HOLLY: Here's your wand, Mummy.
QUEEN THISTLE: Thank you, everyone. Now I think we'd all better get back home. (Waves the wand)
HOLLY: Hooray! We're back!
MRS FOTHERINGILL: My shoes!
QUEEN THISTLE: And my panties!
KING THISTLE: Oh, hello!
QUEEN THISTLE: Hello, everyone.
KING THISTLE: I was getting a tiny bit worried.
QUEEN THISTLE: I think it's all gone very well for the first day. And the good news is,we've found Mrs Fotheringill.
MRS FOTHERINGILL: Hello!
KING THISTLE: Welcome back, Mrs Fotheringill. I expect you'd like a little rest.
MRS FOTHERINGILL: Oh, yes, Your Majesty. Thank you.
KING THISTLE: You'll need to get your strength back before you start teaching the playgroup again.
MRS FOTHERINGILL: Oh.
CHILDREN: Mrs Fotheringill!
(Children giggle)
