About the CD

Lullaby Themes for Sleepy Dreams, Winner of the Parents' Choice GOLD award, is a diverse collection of 18 songs designed to lull even the fussiest baby into a peaceful sleep.

Aimed for children ages pre-birth to three years old, Lullaby Themes is composed of lilting, folk renditions of traditional and non-traditional lullabies, and features the silken, soprano voice of Susie Tallman accompanied by quiet acoustic guitar and piano. This 18-song collection picks up for the millenium where centuries of lullabies have left off.

Parents seeking to bring bedtime songs of the past to their children's ears should look no more. This distinctive collection includes essential favorites like Rock-A-Bye Baby and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, unique versions of Tell Me Why; and Dona Nobis Pacem, the soft African sound of Kumbaya and the classical strains of Mozart's Lullaby. Tallman's gentle voice is wonderfully sleep inducing for children, and her lovely melodies provide for adults a musical haven from the harried world of parenting.

Lullaby Themes for Sleepy Dreams was produced in Boston and San Francisco by Scottie Duncan and Susie Tallman.

Lyrics

1. Hush, Little Baby Traditional

Hush little baby, don’t say a word, papa’s gonna buy you a mockingbird. If that mockingbird don’t sing, papa’s gonna buy you a diamond ring. If that diamond ring turns brass, papa’s gonna buy you a looking glass.
If that looking glass gets broke, papa’s gonna buy you a billy goat. If that billy goat don’t pull, papa’s gonna buy you a cart and bull. If that cart and bull turn over, papa’s gonna buy you a dog named Rover.
If that dog named Rover don’t bark, papa’s gonna buy you a horse and cart. If that horse and cart fall down, you’ll still be the sweetest little baby in town.
2nd verse repeat with mama: Hush little baby, don’t say a word, mama’s gonna buy you a mocking bird.

2. Rock-A-Bye, Baby Traditional (Lyrics R.J Burdette)

Rock-a-bye, baby, on the treetop, when the wind blows, the cradle will rock, when the bough breaks, the cradle will fall, and down will come baby, cradle and all.
Rock-a-bye, baby, gently you swing, over the cradle, mother will sing, sweet is the lullaby o’er your nest, that tenderly sings my baby to rest.

3. Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star Traditional (Lyrics Jane Taylor)

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are!
Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky,
twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are.
When the blazing sun is gone, when he nothing shines upon, then you show your little light,  twinkle, twinkle, all the night, twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are.

Then the traveler in the dark, thanks you for your tiny spark, he could not see where to go, if you did not twinkle so,
twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are.
In the dark blue sky you keep, often through my curtains peep, for  you never shut your eye, till the sun is in the sky,
twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are.

4. Lovely Evening Traditional Round

Oh, how lovely is the evening, is the evening,
when the bells are sweetly ringing, sweetly ringing,
ding, dong, ding, dong, ding, dong.
Merrie Amsterburg Guitar , Duet with Susie and Merrie

5. Mother Goose Lullaby Traditional (Lyrics verses 2 & 3 Karen Kuntz)

Hush-a-bye baby, thy cradle is green, father’s a nobleman, mother’s a queen, sister’s a lady and wears a gold ring,
brother’s a drummer who drums for the king.
Once-a-bye baby, there lived a great king, who had a garden it looked like a dream, roses and lilies of purple and cream,
every warm summer bouquets for the queen.
Once-a-bye baby, this garden so fair, had trees for the children to climb and play there, fruit in the branches red cherries and pears, the king said come play, there’s plenty to share.
Susie Tallman Piano , Scottie Duncan Bass
Mozart’s Lullaby Wolfgang A. Mozart
Lyrics verses 2 & 3 Karen Kuntz
Sleep, little one, go to sleep, so peaceful the birds and the sheep, quiet are meadow and trees, even the buzz of the bees,
the silvery moon beams so bright, down through the window
give light, o’er you the moon beams will creep,
sleep little one go to sleep.  Good night, good night.
Sleep, little one, go to sleep, the flock is with Little Bo Peep,
Little Boy Blue blows his horn, today a new baby is born,
the robins they fly to their nest, the sun sinks below for a rest,
the ocean is blue and so deep,
sleep little one go to sleep.  Good night, good night.
Sleep, little one, go to sleep, the baby chicks waddle and peep, sugar plum fairy spreads sweet dreams for thee in thy head, the kittens and sheep  say goodnight, put your head down sleep tight,  falling stars dance and they leap,
sleep little one go to sleep.  Good night, good night.

6. Mozarts Lullaby

7. All the Pretty Little Horses Traditional

Hush -a-bye, don’t you cry, go to sleep little baby.  Blacks and bays, dapples and grays, coach and six a little horses.
Hush-a-bye, don’t you cry, go to sleepy little baby.
Hush-a-bye, don’t you cry, go to sleepy little baby.  Girls and boys laugh with joy, riding ponies through the fields.
Hush-a-bye, don’t you cry, go to sleepy little baby.

8. Golden Slumbers English Traditional (Lyrics verse 2 Karen Kuntz)

Golden Slumbers kiss your eyes, smiles await you when you rise, sleep, pretty loved ones, do not cry and I will sing a lullaby.

Off to dreamland you shall go,
a place where warm breezes blow,
may windy nights gently sway you to sleep the night away.
Lullaby, lullaby, lullaby.
Scottie Duncan Guitar

9. Armenian Lullaby Traditional

Sleep, my little one, my loved one, as I rock and sing,
as the bright moon watches o’er us, o’er your little crib.

10. Sleep, Baby, Sleep German Traditional

Sleep, baby, sleep.  Your father’s watching his sheep,
your mother shakes the dreamland tree,
a little dream falls down for thee, sleep, baby, sleep.
Sleep, baby, sleep, the skies are full of sheep,
the little stars are the lambs, I guess,
the bright moon is the shepherdess, sleep, baby, sleep.

Tiny baby, sweetly sleep, do not weep,
sleep in comfort, slumber deep.
I will rock you, rock you, rock you, I will rock you, rock you, rock you, tiny baby sweetly sleep, sleep in comfort slumber deep.
Little darling close your eyes, sweetly dream,
while the stars shine in the sky.
I will rock you, rock you, rock you, I will rock you, rock you, rock you, tiny baby sweetly sleep, sleep in comfort slumber deep.
Scottie Duncan Guitar
Slumber Song Traditional
Lyrics Thomas Hastings
Be hushed, my dear, your mother’s near, you need no longer weep, soft melody she sings to thee, now close your eyes in sleep.  Now close your eyes in sleep.  Sleep, sleep.
Be hushed, my dear, dry every tear, and rest in slumber deep, with lullaby, she holds you nigh, now close your eyes in sleep.  Now close your eyes in sleep. Sleep, sleep.

12. Slumber Song

13. Tell Me Why Traditional

Tell me why the stars do shine, Tell me why the ivy twines,
Tell me why the sky is so blue,
And I will tell you just why I love you.
Because God made the stars to shine, Because God made the ivy twine, Because God made the sky so blue,
Because God made you, that’s why I love you.
I really think that God above, created you for me to love,
He picked you out from all the rest,
Because he knew, dear, I’d love you the best.

14. Winkum, Winkum Traditional

Winkum, winkum, shut your eye, while I sing a lullaby,
for the night is almost here, stars are flick’ring, oh, so near,
and the moonlight’s peeping over yonder hilltop capped with clover.
Chickens long have gone to rest,  birds lie snug within their nest, and my birdie soon will be,  sleeping like a chickadee, for with only half a try, winkum, winkum, shut your eye.
Winkum, winkum, shut your eye, while I sing a lullaby, for the night is almost here, stars are flick’ring, oh, so near, and the moonlight’s peeping over yonder hilltop capped with love.
Susie Tallman Piano , Scottie Duncan Bass
Brahms’ Lullaby Johannes Brahms
Lyrics verses 3&4 Karen Kuntz
Lullaby and goodnight, with roses bedight, with down over spread is baby’s wee bed;  lay thee down now and rest,
may thy slumbers be blest, lay  thee down now and rest,
may thy slumbers be blest.
Lullaby and goodnight, thy mother’s delight, bright angels beside my darling abide;  they will guard thee at rest,
thou shalt wake on my breast, they will guard thee at rest,
thou shalt wake on my breast.
Lullaby and goodnight, with twinkling stars bright,
the sandman he spread, sleep dust on thy head,
go to sleep, close your eyes, dream of sweet lullabies,
go to sleep, close your eyes, dream of sweet lullabies.
Lullaby and goodnight, tuck the covers in tight, you will find
this night, a land of delight;  pretty swans on a lake and
angel food cake, baby dear, sugar pie, not a cloud in the sky.

15. Brahm’s Lullaby

16. Kumbayah African Traditional

Kumbayah my Lord, Kumbayah
Kumbayah my Lord, Kumbayah
Kumbayah my Lord, Kumbayah
Oh Lord Kumbayah
Someone’s singing Lord, Kumbayah
Someone’s singing my Lord, Kumbayah
Someone’s singing Lord, Kumbayah
Oh Lord Kumbayah
Someone’s dreaming my Lord, Kumbayah
Someone’s crying my Lord, Kumbayah
Someone’s sleeping my Lord, Kumbayah
Come by here my Lord, Kumbayah
Come by here my Lord, Kumbayah
Come by here my Lord, Kumbayah
Oh Lord Kumbaya

17. Dona Nobis Pacem

Dona nobis pacem pacem Dona nobis pacem
Dona nobis pacem Dona nobis pacem
Dona nobis pacem Dona nobis pacem

18. All Through the Night

Sleep, my child, and peace attend thee, all through the night;
Guardian angels God will send thee, all through the night;
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping hill and vale in slumber steeping
I my loving vigil keeping, all through the night

While the moon her watch is keeping, all thought the night
While the weary world is sleeping, all through the night
O’er thy spirit gently stealing, visions of delight revealing,
Breathes a pure and holy feeling, all through the night.

Mother dear is close beside thee, all through the night
Watching that no harm befall thee, all through the night
Through the open window streaming moonlight on the floor is gleaming
While my baby lies a dreaming, all through the night.
