If you are familiar with?children’s author and illustrator Nick Butterworth
(Tales From Percy’s Park,Jasper’s Beanstalk), you will probably have heard
of Q Pootle 5 and Q Pootle 5 In Space,?which follows the adventures of a small
friendly alien and his friends on the planet Okidoki.
Produced by Snapper Productions and animated by Blue Zoo, Q Pootle 5 will be
making it’s animation debut on CBeebies at the end of July. We caught up with
Nick and Ben Butterworth about the process of taking a book to the screen.
Q Pootle 5 is an animated series, inspired by the books by Nick Butterworth,
which follows the adventures of a small friendly alien and his friends on the
planet Okidoki.
In the series, everyday experiences that will be familiar to children
everywhere are transported to a fantastic intergalactic environment and played
out in warm, funny stories that should appeal to both little ones and grown-
ups.
The theme of friendship is central to the show and throughout the series the
exploits of the characters reveal the importance of being kind, tolerant and
looking after each other – a theme that can be quite pertinent for pre-school
children as they embark on learning how to get along with each other!
The series has been lovingly animated with meticulous attention to detail and
has been produced by Nick Butterworth’s son, Ben.
1. The Great Space Race
It\'s the day of the great space race, and Oopsy is very excited.
2. The Evenfruit Picnic
Pootle and friends try to pick the fruit of an evenfruit tree for a shooting
star show.
3. The Groobie Woogie
Planet Dave is disappointed because he can\'t go to Groobie\'s musical
extravaganza.
4. Pootle\'s House Guest
Q Pootle 5 has plenty to deal with, including some unexpected houseguests.
5. The Picture Puzzle
Q Pootle 5 and Oopsy discover a mysterious person in some of the pictures they
have taken.
6. Officer Bud-D Bud-D
spills a drink on himself. His circuits go haywire, causing all sorts of
problems.
7. Where\'s Ray?
Q Pootle 5\'s astronaut disappears in the night. Does Ray have something to do
with it?
8. Eddi\'s Hat
It\'s the day of the hat party and Eddi has forgotten all about it.
9. Oopsy\'s New Do
When Planet Dave says he loves Oopsy\'s hair do, Q Pootle 5 gives Planet Dave a
new look.
10. Sports Day
Everybody is having fun at the sports day except Eddi.
11. Groobie to the Rescue
When Groobie has a little accident in his spaceship, he loses his confidence.
12. Rocket Bird Oopsy
When Oopsy\'s rocket boots break, Q Pootle 5 comes to her rescue.
13. A Day with Ray
While Stella collects some oozy goo for her plants, Q Pootle 5 and Oopsy look
after Ray.
14. Map Muddle
When Q Pootle 5 and Oopsy find a map in a bottle they set off on a treasure
hunt.
15. Two Places at Once
Q Pootle 5 gets in a muddle when he agrees to help Eddi and Oopsy at the same
time.
