按照惯例，先来介绍一下作者。
《好饿的毛毛虫》的作者Eric Carle艾瑞·卡尔。
卡尔1929年生于纽约，6岁时随父母回到了故乡德国，不过，他经常问母亲什么时候回纽约，因为在那里他可以施展自己的创造力；1952年卡尔毕业后带着仅有的40美金回到纽约，在〈纽约时报〉找到一份平面设计师的工作，之后成为一家广告公司的艺术总监。卡尔的拼贴作品吸引了当时做儿童读物的作者小比尔·马丁，马丁聘请卡尔，并出版了《棕熊，棕熊，你在看什么》，接着1969年出版了《好饿的毛毛虫》，这本书受到全世界一代又一代人的喜欢，它被翻译成33种语言，全球销量超过18万册。2002年，在美国马萨诸塞州阿默斯特，卡尔成立了第一家专为儿童图画书艺术而设立的博物馆。
卡尔的动物和昆虫都是通过在薄纸上涂色、剪成各种形状后拼贴而成。打开卡尔的图画书，你会被那些鲜艳的色彩、丰富的质感和大胆醒目的拼贴画所深深吸引。即便如此，卡尔认为“简单，就是简单的感觉”使他的作品备受小读者喜爱。

《好饿的毛毛虫》
这本书的内容很丰富，提到了水果、数字、一个星期的概念和毛毛虫变蝴蝶的生命周期，请大家注意，它不仅仅是一本简单的认知类绘本。
书中的这几个洞洞很吸引孩子，星期一吃了一个苹果，星期二吃了两个梨，星期三吃了三个李子、星期四吃了四个草莓、星期五吃了五个橘子、并且全部都吃光了，毛毛虫吃过食物的痕迹就是在每种食物上留下啃过的一个镂空的小洞。这种独具匠心的画面结构，引起孩子们极大的兴趣。
一只小小丑丑的毛毛虫，破茧成蝶，变成一只大大的、漂亮的蝴蝶。卡尔说，这本书之所以能吸引孩子是因为它暗含着一种希望。
