on the bed 还是 in the bed

       请问一下，on the bed和in thebed有什么区别？ 有一首歌：five little monkey jumingon the bed ,这里是用的ＯＮ；但牛津书上有一篇：sixin thebed.,此处又是用的ＩＮ　　。请高手指点一下，两者的区别。谢谢

ON THE BED是在床上，IN THE BED是在被窝里，我是这样理解的
