Model
• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask children: What are the children doing in this picture? (playing a game, playing in a playground). How can you tell they are friends? (playing together, happy).
• Ask children: What do you like to do with your friends? (answers will vary).
• Say: We have many different friends. We may have friends in our family, friends, in our class, and friends in our neighborhood. Where have you made your friends? (answers will vary).
Guided Practice
• Guide children through the next three slides, showing them the different things friends do with each other. Always have the children give an example of playing or working with their friends.
Apply
• Have children play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.
• After the first game, ask children to talk about activities they like to do alone and activities they like to do with friends. After the second game, have them discuss what makes a good friend.
Close
• Ask children: How can you be a good friend? Explain.
• Summarize for children that we make friends in many different places. Friends help us work, and learn, and play. Encourage children to think about their first friend.

Objectives

• Students will use the Internet to do research and inquiry on making friends and maintaining friendships.

• Students will compare and contrast their opinions about friendship with those of their peers.

Description

This Web Site was created by a group of students at Pleasant Grove Elementary School in Stockbridge, Georgia. It includes topics related to friendship, such as: "What problems do friends have?"; "What kind of friend are you?"; "How well do you know your friend?"; and "Poems about friendship."
Suggested Activities

• Have students navigate the entirety of the site and complete related activities. For example, have students click on the link titled What kinds of problems do friends have?; Read about the potential problems; and come up with their own solutions before clicking on the Solutions link. Alternatively, have them take the quiz under What kind of friend are you?.
Level Activities

• Have students connect to http://www.wisdomquotes.com/cat_friendship.html. Then, have them:
Approaching choose their favorite friendship quote and share it with the class, explaining why they think it is important.
On level choose five quotes and rewrite them in their own words.
Beyond try to write two or three of their own quotes on friendship, and share them with the class.

Analyze Character, Setting, and Plot

Explain Review the terms character, setting, and plot. Write the following passage on the board: Terry and Chris had just started Saturday morning batting practice when their softball sailed over the baseball field’s high fence. Walking all the way around the fence to get the ball back would have taken forever. “I’ve got an idea, Terry,” Chris said. “Spot,” Chris called to his dog, and pointed to the ball. “Run and get the softball for us.” Spot had the ball back in no time! Read the paragraph aloud with students. Tell them that they will identify the characters and the setting in this passage. Students should think about the beginning, middle, and end of the passage to describe how the characters and the setting help to move the plot along.

Guided Practice Ask: Who is this story about? (Terry, Chris, and Spot, a dog) Where and when does the story happen? (on a baseball field on a Saturday morning) What happens in the story? (Terry and Chris lose a softball over a fence. Chris asks his dog, Spot, to get it. Spot returns the ball.) Help students identify clues as necessary.

Practice Draw a diagram with three circles on the board and label the circles Beginning, Middle, and End. Reread the passage with students. In the circles have students list the events that form the plot development. Then have them use the diagram to retell the story.

很久没記錄了,但加州都在進行中,讀到G2一半了.
進行順利,每星期天讀完經到教會听外國人說英文BIBLE故事,完做手工.

G2語文上了一半了,先上科學G2,但我文本不完整,只好讀讀reader,G2科學,G2NEW..
今天讀完了Forces and motion。主要是--position,motion,forces,friction,gravity,magnet.
作了磁鐵實驗,很感興趣,男孩對科學興趣高一些.

幫孩子打好英文基礎

前言

當孩子呱呱落地,很多父母經已躊躇滿志如何培養孩子,並四出尋找良方如何為孩子一步步的探路、鋪排,唯恐孩子不夠競爭力,會跑輸給別人。但這往往造成揠苗助長,為孩子帶來無形壓力,反而欲速不達,孩子既不能愉快地成長,也未能打好有助長遠學習之根基。

我從孩子出世後,從沒有為孩子一早探路、鋪排,沒有參加那些早期學習班、遊戲班(Playgroup)、認字班,等等,只是順其自然,到差不多兩歲時,為孩子報讀幼兒班,兩歲幾開始報讀幼稚園,然後也按正常時間報讀小學等。孩子在幼稚園期間也參加一些興趣班,目的純粹是給孩子多元化接觸新事物,發掘個人興趣或優點,而不是為收集證書 (Collect certificates),編製孩子個人履歷 (Portfolio) 來報考小學 。

經多年來的親身體驗、實踐與驗證,發覺在知識學習層面,幼兒最重要的是打好語文基礎,以便透過大量閱讀來吸收知識。語言是學習知識之匙,因此,我會建議選定一種語文作為主要學習語文,盡早建立一定之語文能力,才能有效地透過廣泛閱讀吸收新知識。而另一語文可視作外文來學,不是用來吸收新知識的。這其實跟外國,例如歐洲國家的教育理念相符,他們的孩子會先學習母語作為主要學習用語,到初小才開始慢慢引入外語,但只當外文來學而不是作為學習新知識的主要語文。

可是,香港的情況很特別,究竟應選中文或英文作為學習語文呢? 個人、學校及政府政策都好不一致。香港的國際學校簡單得多,就是以英文作為主要學習語文,但其他本地津貼、私立、直資學校等,間間不同: 有些自稱英文學校但平日卻主要用中文溝通;有些自稱中文學校卻大量加強英文課堂;也有些自稱先中後英,或中英並重等等,總之就是十分混亂。結果大家有目共睹,若以政府在教育所投放的資源來衡量,香港學生的平均語文能力 (包括中英文) 真的是未如理想。

我孩子在陰差陽錯下選擇了英文作為主要學習語文,亦由於很早就能培養出閱讀興趣及建立閱讀能力,所以能博覧群書,除了英文能力略有所成,也吸收了大量的各類知識,及培養出主動追求知識的習慣與興趣。

我將孩子學習英文的過程整理、歸納,當中包括我採用的方法及經驗,未必人人認同及人人適用,我只敢說用在自己孩子身上成效顯著,自己十分滿意。

上篇 - 給父母的三個提示

第一個提示:了解孩子認知心理

要幫孩子學習有成,先要了解孩子心理。孩子學習動機可大致歸納為三大類:

好奇:孩子天生就有好奇心,有興趣嘗試新事物,所以要不斷給孩子接觸新事物。在閱讀方面來說,即提供多元化的書籍,要選書給孩子,不是全由孩子自己選,擴闊孩子閱讀層面。

好勝:成功感是孩子學習的有效原動力,讚美與鼓勵一定比責罵有效,而過分的責罵更會使孩子失去自信。有自信的孩子往往想學懂更多東西,鞏固其優越及成功感,因而會主動學習及努力比別人學得更好及更多。在閱讀方面來說,當孩子能在讚美與鼓勵下開始可以自己讀一本書及明白內容時,會感到很有成功感,再加上在閱讀過程學到新知識時就更會感覺愉快及滿足,這樣很容易建立閱讀興趣。反之,不少父母與孩子一起閱讀時,不能營造愉快的氣氛,給予很大壓力。此外,亦太操之過急,孩子程度未達或根基未穩時,就急着要孩子閱讀較深的書籍,這樣孩子未能從中獲得滿足及成功感,而是挫敗與失落,很容易會對閱讀失去動力及興趣,造成惡性循環。

好玩:孩子也是天生就喜歡玩,所以遊戲式或活動式學習是最有效的。在學習語文方面也是一樣,透過互動的活動,例如:遊戲、畫劇、唱歌、實驗、主題項目 (Theme project works) 等,比沉悶地學文法、做練習、硬背書等好得多。在閱讀方面,早期可選一些設計精美,有互動功能的學習材料。與孩子伴讀,也可加插互問互答環節,務求營造出愉快的學習氣氛。

無論要孩子學習什麼,想達事半功倍之效就需留意學習過程能否滿足到孩子以上三個學習動機之一。

第二個提示:配合學習次序進度

無論學哪一種語文,幼兒的學習次序都應依「聽、講、讀、寫」之次序,這也是配合幼兒生理成長之步伐。每一個階段必須為孩子打好一定基礎,配合孩子之生理成長及能力,才開始引進另一階段之學習。舉例來說,應先建立一定之閱讀單字能力才開始學習記單詞,操之過急地太早逼幼兒去讀字、記單詞及寫字,只可收短期的效果,那些痛苦、挫敗或不愉快感會深深潛藏孩子的潛意識中,使孩子不自覺地產生抗拒心態,這樣很難對該語文培養出興趣,而沒有真正的興趣與熱情 (Passion),花多少時間也不能達致真正的高水平。

每位孩子的天資、成長速度及培育都不同,因此,什麼時候可以開始另一學習階段因人而異,最要緊是按部就班及留意孩子在每階段之能力進展,為孩子編定合適之學習進度。

以下是我按「聽、講、讀、寫」次序之原則,再配合自己孩子實際情況來安排孩子早期學習英文的進程給各位參考:

周歲以前沒有正式學習任何英文,在家日常溝通也只是用廣東話。

一至二歲期間每天會播半至一小時幼兒英文學習光碟 (Learning VCD),也間中看一些英文卡通節目。十四五月開始會教一些簡單的英文名詞讀音,例如 「Daddy, Mammy, Door, Window…」等等,也會買一些英文圖書一起閱讀,只需孩子看圖畫而不用看字,而我會教他讀圖畫內名詞的英文讀音。認字方面只教A – Z 英文字母,只是認而不用寫,在家日常溝通當然是只用廣東話,但間中會加插一些英文名詞。

二至四歲半期間開始上本地一般幼兒園及本地活動教學式幼稚園,也有參加一些全英語的美術班及英文拼音 (Phonics) 班,也曾參加過一些每星期一小時的英文課程。而在家的英文培訓方法跟之前沒有分別,只是內容不同,但仍然從沒有要求孩子去認、讀、寫任何英文生字。

四歲半那年的復活節後,轉到國際幼稚園繼續讀K2,之後沒有再上坊間的英文課程。而在家依然只用廣東話,但按學校建議加插朗讀故事書或播放「有聲書」 (Audio Books) 給孩子聽,但仍然從沒有要求孩子去認、讀、寫任何英文生字。

差不多五歲入讀國際小學,沒有任何課外補習 (中文除外),每日只按學校要求為孩子在家進行有系統的「伴讀計劃」(Guided-reading Scheme),每日一本新的英文書,由淺至深及按孩子閱讀能力一級一級遞進,學校會定期評估孩子閱讀能力而給予合適程度的英文叢書用作每天伴讀。初期會加插讀一些常用之生字,但只需朗讀及明白解釋而還未需要記單詞,下學期開始加插每周單詞表,也是由淺至深及按個別孩子串字能力編排。此外,每周會在學校借一本不同種類但主要是非故事性叢書 (Non-fiction books) 在家閱讀,但只需自行閱讀 (Self-reading)而毋須伴讀,而大致上沒有其他任何家課。

有系統的伴讀只開始了兩三個月,已發覺效果顯著,孩子對英文閱讀產生很大興趣,於是我仿效學校做法,自己再購買合適的英文叢書加強伴讀。不出半年,孩子由最初只能閱讀每頁只有一兩個英文字的書,進而已有能力閱讀分章回的叢書 (Chapter books),於是我又加強孩子的自行閱讀計劃,購買不同種類之英文叢書,包括故事及非故事書給孩子作自行閱讀 。

當孩子有能力自行閱讀分章回的叢書後,我便開始用「三張書單」方法進一步鞏固孩子英文閱讀能力及培養孩子的英文寫作能力。

備註: 用作「Self-reading」的書跟「Guided-reading」的書是完全不同的,「Self-reading」的書可以較長及較深,孩子不需要懂得每一個字、詞或句子意思也可以閱讀,只要能整體明白書中主要內容便可,很多時孩子可從上文下理去學習新的生字、文法及知識。

孩子在整個英文學習過程中,我認為給我最大啓發性及最關鍵的轉捩點就是從國際小學學到的「伴讀計劃」 。伴讀概念來自孩子的學校,我自己將方法加以改良及加強用於自己孩子身上。細節如下:

「Guided-reading」一般適用於五至七歲小朋友,應持續兩至三年,即使小朋友已有能力自行閱讀分章回的叢書,也應繼續來打好閱讀基礎。

「Guided-reading」之讀本是一些經教育家編定,一系列分開不同程度的英文叢書,例如大家熟悉的Oxford Reading Tree 系列就是這一類;而Magic Tree House之類的英文系列小說不是用作「Guided-reading」之合適讀物,因為沒有很明顯及仔細地按程度分級,只適合用作每日讀寫練習 (Daily self-reading 及 writing practice) 之用。

為孩子開始進行有系统的「伴讀計劃」時,應從合適的程度 (Level or Stage) 開始。簡單的判斷方法是若一頁書中有超過兩三個字不懂得讀或不明白意思,那本書的程度便不大適合為孩子作伴讀,應選較低程度之書開始。

伴讀的方法是先叫孩子將整本書朗讀一遍 (必須讀出聲),若遇到孩子不懂讀的字,或不明白意思的地方,家長便從旁教導 (氣氛必須是和諧及愉快),務求孩子完全明白書中所有字的讀音及意思 (但只需即場明白,過後忘記部分絕不打緊)。孩子讀完後,父母可重新朗讀一遍給孩子聽,以加強記憶。

平日每天最少要朗讀一本同級全新的書,已完成的不用翻讀,也不用考孩子記得多少。每次之伴讀不應超過二十分鐘,否則孩子精神難以集中及感到疲倦而產生抗拒。若孩子所讀的程度已很高及書本較長,那麼父母可毋須重新朗讀一遍給孩子聽,甚至一部較長的書分兩日朗讀,務求整個伴讀過程不超過約二十分鐘為限。

同一程度的書最少應閱讀十幾廿本 (愈多愈好),及選擇不同系列及出版社的書,讓孩子打好基礎才應考慮進級。剛剛開始伴讀計劃時,應先選讀故事書,因較易閱讀及有故事性會較能引起孩子閱讀興趣。當孩子升了五六級後,可同時引入同樣是小心編級 (Carefully graded) 的知識性非故事叢書,以擴闊孩子的閱讀能力及學習各類知識。

當孩子有能力自行閱讀分章回的叢書,可慢慢同步加強自行閱讀及開始加插每天讀寫練習 (Daily reading and writing practice)。

總結

從孩子年幼開始,循序漸進地通過有系統的推行「伴讀計劃」,「自行閱讀計劃」及「每天讀寫練習」等,不出幾年,孩子的英文讀寫能力定能大有進展,毋須再做任何課外文法練習或補習,也絕對可以輕鬆應乎一般小學對英文讀寫能力之要求。到了上中學時,除了要維持大量課外閱讀外,可以有系統地學習不同文體 (例如: 書信、散文、詩詞、報告、論文、小說、戲劇等等) 的寫作技巧,這時不可單靠自己在家中練習,適宜找有經驗及有能力的導師作指導。

我可以分享國際學校如何教孩子認那些 High Frequency Words 作為 Guided-Reading Scheme 之準備:

1. 每星期準備一張約10 個新字的 high frequency words,而個字後面有 5 個空格。

2. 第一天,先教孩子讀那 10 個字,解釋字意或舉一些簡單之應用方法,例如教"it" 這個字時可舉應用例及 it is a dog.,但干萬不要強迫孩子去記 spelling,只需孩子看到個字然後識讀便可。

3. 當孩子識讀某字後,在其中一空格內加上一 tick。

4. 第二天,要求孩子再讀同一張 word list,讀得出便再在後面另一空格內加上一 tick。若孩子忘記讀法便再教一次。

5. 如此類推直至 word list 內之空係格 tick 完然後再準備另張約10 個新字的 high frequency words,重覆以上之學習 cycle。

註:每個字都必須要分最少5天,每天讀一次以加強記憶,不要太短時間內重覆讀到5次就算。分5天做法是想將短期記憶轉化為長期記憶。

我所指教孩子讀 high frequency words 只是 year 1 (即K3)上學期與 guided-reading scheme 同步進行,到下學期已不需要,只有 guided-reading 繼讀,但同時引入 spelling list。

所以,我覺得國際學校真的有一套有系统教學方法,能成功培養孩子的閱讀能力與興趣,國際學校學生喜歡閱讀的比例比本地學校高。

下篇 - 給孩子的三張書單

當孩子已建立基本的閱讀水平,即有能力自行閱讀簡單的分章回的叢書,可為孩子編製三張書單:

第一張書單: 短篇英文小說
短篇英文小說的長度由數十頁至約二百五十頁以下 (由淺至深),是留給孩子在平日作讀寫練習之用,即看完後寫篇讀後感想或延續故事創作 (Extend the story line),讓孩子自由發揮,寫多少可視乎孩子的寫作能力,也毋須改正任可錯處。但整個讀寫練習最好不超過約一個半小時,否則沒有足夠空餘時間作其他日常活動。

第二張書單: 非故事性叢書
這些非故事性叢書是要擴闊孩子的視野及知識,應放在孩子隨手可取的地方,讓孩子在平日温習或做功課之餘閒或中間休息時間,隨時及隨意翻閱一些喜愛的非故事性叢書,以作調劑,所以要選擇一些寫得有趣及有知識性的叢書。

第三張書單: 長篇英文小說
長篇英文小說可考慮一些達二百五十頁或以上的書,最佳是選擇一些小說系列。這些書是留待假日外出時,讓孩子在飯前飯後或一些等待的空閒時間 (Idle time) 閱讀,純作消閒閱讀(Leisure reading) 而毋須寫任何讀後感想 (Book review or comment)。這比起孩子在空閒時間時只懂打電子遊戲機好得多,不過,亦應給予孩子一些時間打遊戲機,例如只可玩十五分鐘,讓孩子可更易融入其他同齡孩子的活動圈子,也可訓練孩子的手眼協調能力。

子仁讀完之後,由我讀給弟听,二人都喜歡
由於E較簡單,所以子仁一天會讀4-5本.

猜,猜不出来,查字典。一般她读第一次,我读第2次,她再读一次。然后,就过了。有空的时候,就再翻一下。

下面,我准备让她一边读,一边做题,我不准备陪同。
