Hank Zipzer is a young boy growing up on the Upper West Side of New York City, who is dyslexic. Winkler based the character on himself as a child and his own experiences with dyslexia and ADHD. He attends P.S. 87 at Amsterdam Avenue and W 78th Street. His friends are Frankie Townsend and Ashley Wong.
Filming has started on CBBC’s brand-new comedy drama series, Hank Zipzer, featuring multi-award winning actor Henry ‘The Fonz’ Winkler. The series, which is currently filming in Halifax supported by Screen Yorkshire's Yorkshire Content Fund, stars Henry Winkler as music teacher Mr Rock, (Henry’s real life music teacher), alongside newcomer Nicholas James who plays the role of Hank Zipzer.
