Ice Dome
I’ve found the perfect place to spend scorching hot summer days. Although I have never lived in a place where there is a real, true winter with snow, the ice rink in my hometown is a cool alternative. On those 110-degree-July days, the Ice Dome is my escape into winter.
At one time, the building was a warehouse. The skating rink itself takes up over half the area of a football field. The outside of the building is baby blue with sparking white icicles painted to look as if they’re hanging from the roof. At the entrance, the words “Ice Dome” blink off and on in fluorescent colors. From the parking lot, the only indication of the delicious chill inside is the monotonous drone of the air conditions.
The first time I went to the Ice Dome, I was eight years old, and it was my friend Ali’s birthday party. As I walked into the building, I felt the hot summer breeze slowly suffocate as the double doors closed behind me. Jay, the manager, asked for seven dollars. Then, he handed me a pair of skates, pressed a button, and unlocked the door to the rink. A blast of air like a blue-tailed northerly swirled around me.
I wandered around the sitting area for a while. Then, I stashed my shoes in a locker near the water fountain. A few feet away, I found a bench and put my skates on. I could already see a few people making slow, graceful circles out on the ice. I scuffed my skates against the thick rubbery mat that protected the floor, and hobbled over to the edge of the ice. Skaters whizzed past me, laughing and shouting at each other. I took a deep breath and launched myself onto the ice.
Ali waved at me from the other side of the rink. So I wobbled my way toward her and her friends. When I saw everyone gliding and spinning, I was determined to learn to skate. Meanwhile, I made slow, painstaking progress around the edge. A few people were scattered among the rows of blue vinyl seats that lined two sides of the rink mostly moms with little kids. The rich smell of popcorn permeated the area nearest the snack bar, and in a rare moment when kids weren’t yelling. I could hear the swoosh-swoosh of skates on ice.
That was the first of many trips to the Ice Dome. Soon I learned to keep my balance, turn quickly, and stop without plowing into a wall. Last year I joined a youth hockey team that plays games in the Ice Dome. Now when I skate, the blue vinyl seats are filled with cheering fans. From the very first visit, the Ice Dome has been a wonderful, exciting place for me.
压力山大啊！ 这是美国中小学的范文吧，国内普通中小学的学生估计看不懂，别说写了，就说我外甥女吧，五四制的初一，正好六年级，从幼儿园就开始学英语，阶梯，新概念，再加上学校教的，都是在围着语法转，新概念学两年，第一册都没学完，有天我看她的新概念教材，居然拿着陕西啥出版社出的新概念练习册，培训老师就给他们讲这个，钱没少花，却不见效果。要学好英语，亲子英语真的好重要，父母自己教美国教材。学语言需要时间，反复的听说看，除了父母，别人没这个时间。国内没有被动学习语言环境，只能主动的学习。 除了writesource能救你外，没有了，国人写的写作书都是垃圾。 今天开始看Write source 5:D The sample friends is a pretty good essay. Will show this book to my boy in the coming summer holiday! 英文写作为何不去阅读写作版看看 Go ahead reading Writing source today... 也开始学习writing source G1 找家教,我用过Ivy Bulb,挺好。 raz里面的短文也可以学的，一本一个专题 语法学的多，词汇量也不少，都是为应试拂去的。文章不知怎么写，跟有效输入太少有关系 写的很好！
