Dash tells us all about life on the moon andmost of it is negative - the food is bad, the beds (sleeping pods) are cramped,and the bathrooms are unspeakable. One day, Dr. Holtz, the colony's residentgenius, walks out of the air lock without putting on his space suit correctlyand is found dead. Everyone thinks its an accident, but Dash had overheard aconversation Dr. Holtz had had the night before his death and thinks its amurder.Though the story has many humorous moments—especiallyinvolving the insufferable wealthy space tourists—it also has some plausiblescience. Each chapter is preceded by a reading from "The OfficialResidents' Guide to Moon Base Alpha," NASA's part propaganda/partinstruction manual, containing such riveting topics as "Exercise" and"Food."
