There are 3 types of word problems commonlyused. They are story problems, single step problems and multi-step problems.
Story problems are those used in first gradewhere students are asked to add the number of ducks in the picture. Most of thetime teachers give simple single-step problems that use predictable method tosolve. This does not help the child in problem analysis and problem solving.
Singapore Math worksheet problems are mostlymulti-step in nature and are more challenging for the child. It provides therigour to develop the child’s thinking.

最先采用新加坡数学课程的是家庭学校, 天才儿童学校。
现在，新加坡数学已在40个美国州受欢迎。
100个美国学区并采用新加坡数学系列为核心课程的一部分。

美国反而名列第九。

Singapore Math 利用三个步骤的学习过程(learning process)。这三个步骤是：有形的例子(concrete)，图案的例子(pictorial)，抽象的公式(abstract)。
