Suppose there were 12-year-old twins, a boy and girl named John and Abigail Templeton. Let's say John was pragmatic and played the drums, and Abigail was theoretical and solved cryptic crosswords. Now suppose their father was a brilliant, if sometime confused, inventor. And suppose that another set of twins—adults—named Dean D. Dean and Dan D. Dean, kidnapped the Templeton twins and their ridiculous dog in order to get their father to turn over one of his genius (sort of) inventions. Yes, kidnapped. Wouldn't it be fun to read about that? Oh please. It would so. Now in paperback, this is just the first in a series perfect for boys and girls who are smart, clever, and funny (just like the twins), and enjoy reading adventurous stories (who doesn't?!). And now, there's more!

With its kid-perfect humor and dynamic illustrations, Book 1 of the hilarious Templeton Twins series left young readers clamoring for more. And now with Book 2 in paperback, readers will once again revel in drama, silliness, and suspense as the twins (and their ridiculous dog) plot to thwart the dastardly Dean brothers in order to save their father's invention as well as their father (and the dog). Oh yes, there is sure to be another recipe. This time for guacamole. Or is it coleslaw?
Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Gr 5-7–In this sequel to The Templeton Twins Have an Idea (Chronicle, 2012), Abigail and John are knee deep in adventures surrounding the theft of their dog, Cassie, and the return of the Dean brothers. This time the siblings' inventor/professor father has been hired by the Thespian Academy of Performing Arts and Sciences (TAPAS) to create a new lighting device. Once again, the Deans are out to sabotage him and steal Cassie, dubbed “the ridiculous dog,” as a diversion. However, the protagonists use their quick wit and brains to save the day, the dog, and the lighting device. The plot is conveyed and commented upon by the narrator in a snarky, sarcastic, and humorous manner. Throughout the story, a few new zany characters are introduced as well as some of the favorites readers will remember from the earlier book. Make a Scene is as irresistible and hilarious as its predecessor.Holmes's artwork throughout is both unique and intricate, adding to the story and its characters. The text, format, and multiple-choice questions at the end of each chapter have all been cleverly chosen to add to the mood and pacing of the plot. This humorous story is sure to entertain reluctant and avid readers alilke.–Megan McGinnis, Sachem Public Library, Holbrook, NYα(c) Copyright 2013. From Booklist
The uncommonly intrusive narrator of The Templeton Twins Have an Idea (2012) claims that this sequel is not the same story—but the resemblance is closer than close. Once again Professor Templeton creates a magnificent invention (there a one-person helicopter, here an oversize magnifying lens for close-ups of live theater productions); once again nefarious twins Dean D. and Dan D. Dean connive to steal credit for it; and once again the professor’s teenage twin children Abigail and John cleverly thwart (“This is an excellent word, and you should make use of it in your daily life, as I do”) their schemes. The episode is quite properly dedicated to Lemony Snicket, and carefully crafted to appeal to that august personage’s fans. Includes a coleslaw recipe and many footnotes. Grades 4-6. --John Peters --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
