Editorial Reviews
Review
"Almond's books for younger readers are always a treat [...] This is charming, profound and very funny, and Smith's exuberant black-and-white illustrations are real humour." * The Bookseller * "Award-winning David Almond's new story for younger reader is a delightfully lightly told, warm-hearted story perfect for all those who are willing believe in a little bit of something special. [...] David Almond inspires readers' imagination and raises questions about definitions of good and bad. It is a wonderful book." - * Julia Eccleshare, LoveReading * [...] this is a charmingly goofy story [...] For all its superficial puerility, The Tale of Angelino Brown returns, like Almond's other novels, to death: this is a poignant book about grief. [...] grown up readers will be touched by it, too. * The Daily Telegraph * "As ever, there is joy to be had in Almond's ear for the beauty and rhythm of everyday speech, and Alex T Smith's illustrations are cheeky and apt." * The Literary Review * "This lovely, heart-warming story from award-winning author, David Almond is full of humour wisdom and fun. With fantastic illustrations by Alex T. Smith, it's a gorgeous celebration of imagination, creativity and wonder that will leave you with a huge smile on your face." * The Week Junior, Children's Book of the Week * "[...] sweet, funny and joyous [...] Alluding to Pinocchio, and enhanced by Alex T Smith's cheery black-and-white caricatures, this would be a delight to read aloud during summer holidays to children as they are learning, dreaming and having fun." * Sunday Telegraph * "David Almond's talent for mining the humour and emotion of potentially sad situations is unequalled, no more so than in this story [...] With shades of Pinocchio, this is a warm-hearted lesson in the importance of love, and a reminder that not all learning takes place in the classroom." * Daily Mail * "This is a heartwarming story full of gentle humour, as captivating as the title character, whose personality is further enhanced by the charming, expressive illustrations. Large print encourages developing readers onto medium length novels." Star Read * Primary Times *
