9月份因为劳动节有个3天长周末;
10月份开家长会会有个4天长周末;
11月初有个3天长周末,11月底因为感恩节放假一周(连周末一起6天);
12月圣诞节前后放寒假(连周末一起12天,)
冬季:
1月3号开始,1月份有个3天长周末;
2月份有个3天长周末;
3月5/6/7三天春假,连周末一起5天。
春季:
3月8号开始。
4月份开家长会,复活节左右,连周末一起放假6天;
5月份3天长周末;
6月7号上半天学后放暑假。

We celebrated Valentine's Day in Kindergarten!I hope you enjoyed all of the gifts that your child made with love for you!It was heartwarming to watch the children give and received cards last week.A lot of wonderful friendships have formed in our room!
Reading
This week each group got to read a new book that focused on a new skill. Some of the groups worked on sneaky silent e while other groups continued to focus on –an family words as well as sight words such as we and go. We learned the ou and ow sounds and we think of falling down and saying “OW!!!” when we see these letters together. It is a lot of fun to hear the children sound out words and then grab their knee and yell “ou!” when they recognize these sounds!
Writing
This week we started compiling examples for our brand new writing center! This will be used whenever we have free time and the children can choose to write independently! We will have all kinds of paper, notebooks, and story paper to use to get creative with our writing! I will be asking children to make examples of different ways that we use writing everyday. This week someone made an example of a grocery list and it was adorable!
Math
In math we worked some more with teen numbers and even played a teen number memory game. We worked on seeing teen numbers as groups of tens and ones. The memory game was very fun and challenging as the students worked to match a teen number with a corresponding number sentence. (17 = 10+7) We will be sending home the game next week!! We also continued to practice using equal and not equal. The children learned that they could challenge themselves by using number sentences or even dot pictures. For example 5 = 1+4 or 2 = **

This past week we have been busy learning all about Presidents and coins!The children have been enjoying learning about life when George Washington and Abe Lincoln were alive.We made log cabins and wrote stories about them!We made masks to make ourselves look like George!We practiced identifying pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters, as well as counting them!Next week we will continue to work with money and making exchanges, such as 5 pennies=1 nickel!
In reading this week each group got to try a harder book than they have been reading and I found out that we have some secret readers in our room! Even though these books were too difficult to read independently, I encouraged the students to use all of the skills they have acquired to figure out the new words that they saw. We also practiced sounding out words and then recognizing them on the
following pages without trying to sound them out phonetically! It was a great week for reading!
The most creative week for writing yet! We focused this week on describing words. We did many activities and practiced using words that tell our readers more about what things looked like. We used color words, shape words, and even number words. We described pieces of fabric, we built and described log cabins, created and described our own monsters, and even picked animals out of a bag to describe!
These new describing words will really help to make out writing more interesting to read! 第9周
Obviously it was another fabulous week in our room...hence today's pajama celebration!The best part was hearing the children articulate what they do so wonderfully in order earn such a reward!
Today your child brought home their February journal.I hope you enjoy reading all of your child's stories.I am sure you are as thrilled with their constant growth as I am!Be sure to read the last page.It will give you some more insight into your child's strengths and goals for kid writing.
Today we celebrated Dr. Suess Day by reading more of his stories, making a cat in the hat, and enjoying green eggs and ham!Be sure to ask your child about our delicious snack!
This week we continued to explore maps!Thank you to all who returned the map with all of the places visited by your child.We transferred all of the information to a large map.The children were very observant noticing that most of our travel is around the east coast.We discussed why this might be.We have a few friends that have traveled further west and it was fun to discuss what things the children have seen on their travels!
In math we played some more games to help us get even better at recognizing coins and their value.Be sure to ask your child about the song, "Penny, nickel, dime"!Your child brought home a new math memory game today.The cards are number sentences for 11-19 using 10 as the base number, so 10+1, 10+2, etc. as a way of recognizing numbers in the teens.Your child should be able to remember the answers from memory orcount on from 10 to solve the equation.Have fun practicing the teen numbers with your child!

Seems I stirred the pot today with the children talking about the "trip" I will take them on over the next few weeks!Our newest unit of study involves an imaginary trip from home to the city, then we will board a train to go the farm!From the farm we will ride our bikes to the pond, and finally take a hot air balloon home!It is a wonderful way to end our year learning about different places, transportation, animals, etc!
Today we designed suitcases and tomorrow we will be packing them.So..if your child is telling you that they need to pack for school, never fear, we have it covered!
第11周
We have been very busy and having a LOT of fun in Kindergarten for the past couple of weeks!Here are a few of our highlights:
*We are all set for our trip!We packed a suitcase, made a map, wrote about what we are most looking forward to seeing, and made bunnies to take with us!Next week we will be learning all about cars, earning our driver's license, and heading to the city!
*A leprechaun came to visit and left us a pot of gold!While digging for gold we discovered the coins contained words, both real and leprechaun language!We had fun reading, sorting, and recording!The leprechaun also forgot his hat this morning in our room.We wrote stories of how to trapa leprechaun, what leprechauns eat, where they live, and what we would do if we caught one!Finally while we were out of the room the leprechaun returned for his hat and left us a pot of gold candies in thanks for taking such good care of it!
*In math we continued to explore partner numbers, recording strategies for solving number stories, and comparing sets of objects! 第12周
Unit Activities
This week was all about cars! The children learned early on that the only way we could get to the city was if we drove! The problem was, only I have my driver’s license! So the children learned about and made cars this week so that they could earn their license! We learned about old cars and new cars and how our world has changed because of cars! Today was our Driver’s Test!! The kids needed to learn how to obey traffic signs and drive safely! If they passed, then they earned their kindergarten driver’s license and next week they can “drive” to the city with me
Writing
This week we read a story about a little otter that was a loud snorer! The children loved the silly story but were also interested in the way the story was written. The illustrator used a lot of speech bubbles in the illustrations. The children were challenged in writing to create a story with a speech bubble and they did amazing! They learned that the speech bubble has to be coming from the person that is talking and also, their story and speech bubble could not say the exact same thing! A lot of them took on the challenge and did a great job utilizing the speech bubble!
Math
In math this week, we worked a lot with partner numbers, specifically partners of 10. We played a really fun matching game that was like memory. Instead of flipping over two matching numbers, the goal was to flip two partner numbers that made ten. We also learned about Math Mountains and continued to practice a few simple subtraction problems. We even colored a rainbow that helped us to find the partners of ten at the end of the rainbow!

Things are super as always in kindergarten!This time of year is always fun.I love observing how independent the children are becoming.All of the children really know and understand each others' feelings and interests, which makes for lovely days!Here are some of the high lights of our week!
In math we have been learning about 3-D shapes.The children described, compared, and experimented with the shapes.Our shape museum was awesome!Thanks to all of the parents that helped their child find real life examples of cubes, spheres, cylinders, and cones.With these shapes we discovered which can roll, slide, and stack.
Your child brought home a math game today!Monster Match is a memory game in which the children try to make partners of 10.For example, 1 and 9, 2 and 8, 3 and 7, etc.Have fun!
In Kid Writing the children are practicing stretching their stories so that there are details and sequencing.One way we practice this is having them read their story to a friend, listen to their friend's wondering, and then answer their wondering in the story!
We explored the city this week, and the children loved it!We took an imaginary trip to the city with Ms. Roe, had a job fair in all of the kindergarten rooms, and designed a city for our clay bunnies.The children drew pictures of what they want to be when they grow up.Next we are headed for the farm via train!Please help your child build a 3-D train car for their clay bunny!Their bunny is only 1 or 2 inches big and we must fit 19 cars on top of our coat rack, so not too large please!You can use boxes, wood, legos, etc.Please send in the cars by April 16th!
I am looking forward to meeting with all of you on either April 5th or 10th! The children are hard at work writing what they are proud of learning this year, as well as what they want to work on for the rest of the year.They are excited to share this with you!Remember, the children have off April 5-10!

It was a very quick, but busy and FUN week in our classroom!Below are some of the great things that happened!
It was great meeting with all of you last Thursday and Tuesday!It was so nice to share what the children are proud of learning this year, and to see what goal they have set for themselves!For the record:this was the first time EVER that every single family made it to their scheduled conference time!Kudos to all of you!
We returned on Wednesday to enjoy a visit with Helen Lester!She was a wonderful speaker and taught the children about generating ideas, "fizzle stories", and determination!Be sure to ask your child to show you the Hidee Ho Song!
We spent more time talking about plants!We discussed what scientists do, what tools they use, and what they do with knowledge learned.The children then practiced being scientists by observing, predicting, and wondering!Be sure to ask about the lima bean experiment, the avocado stone, and grass heads!Next week we will continue to observe these experiments and begin a new one as well!
In math, we continued exploring partner numbers through games.We played "counters in a cup" with partners again, but this time we used larger numbers and had to record!We also used math mountains to explore partner numbers!I am sure you all saw the paper arrived home full of number sentences.The children were very excited to complete it!Those that completed the back for practice received a sticker!It is not too late for your child to return it on Monday!

Trains, trains, and more trains!Can you guess what we learned about this week?
We made a book all about trains.I hope you enjoy reading it with your child.The children did beautiful drawings to match their learning!
I LOVE all of the 3D trains families made for their 3D bunnies.Thank you for your help with this project.
We made an edible train snack!Be sure to ask your child how to make one and maybe try it at home!
Today we took a train ride with all of kindergarten!The children worked hard to earn tickets to get on the train, buy a snack and a drink, and watch a movie.Be sure to ask your child all about the beautiful scenery we saw on our trip.The train stopped at the farm where we will stay for a week or so to learn all about life on a farm!
We continued learning about plant growth.We made a hypothesis about our carrot experiment.Be sure to ask your child what this big word means and what the experiment involves!
Our grass heads have begun to sprout!We are watching closely hoping to give them haircuts soon.
We made vegetable flowers on Monday.They were delicious!(Amazing what a bit of ranch dressing can do!)
In math we explored adding and counting on from 10.The goal if for the children to become very familiar with partner numbers to 10.
Next week we will begin practicing subtraction and practice graphing! 第17周
We went to the farm!!!!As I am sure you all have heard, we left the city on the train and headed to the farm.We spent this week learning about animals, plants, and jobs on the farm!The children worked hard all year to earn their "farmer's uniform" so that they could work on the farm today!Some of the jobs included: milking the cow, shearing sheep, gathering eggs, planting seeds, driving tractors, and painting the barn. Be sure to ask your child which was their favorite job!
In math we talked about estimation.We compared this term to hypothesis, which we know means a scientific guess.So, the children defined estimation as a math guess.It was great fun watching them make and defend their estimations!
The children brought home their April journals today.I hope you enjoy reading their latest stories.You will notice a variety of writing topics including magic gardens, train stories, and farm stories.If there are empty pages, please encourage your child to use them for writing!
Perhaps one of the most exciting things to happen this week was a bit of rearranging of furniture!The children are really enjoying our new reading corner for reading lessons with me!We are experimenting with a new way of running centers that will give the children more choice, yet actually result in more on task reading and writing.As a result of this "experiment", as well as our crazy, busy schedule for the rest of the year, I am not having Star Visitors on a regular basis.You will be receiving an email with information regarding our "Guest Reader" opportunity.Also, there may be days that I am in need of extra help for special activities so be on the lookout for those emails!

Wow...what a busy week!Enjoy reading about our adventures!
Monday's field trip to Millbrook Marsh was awesome!We explored the marsh using our senses.We were lucky enough to see a baby duck, frog, and beaver damn.We smelled like ants, listened for a "fistful of sounds" and found different textures in the marsh.We had beautiful weather and the children were amazing listeners.
Our "experiment" during centers was a success!The children have been choosing which center to go to when they want.The choices are word work, work on writing, listening to reading, and read to self (during which time reading instruction occurs).The children are really enjoying the freedom and I am enjoying the focused time for 45 minutes of authentic reading and writing!
During kid writing we focused on non fiction writing.The children chose an animal to study, wrote about it, and illustrated it.Then they were able to "teach" Mrs. Mattivi's room about their animal.I hope you enjoyed reading about your child's animal of choice!Next week we will learn about cause and effect stories!
In math we began to explore subtraction.The children were challenged to use all of the strategies to solve story problems.Be sure to ask your child what these strategies are!
Today the children took a bike ride to the "pond"!We spent some time talking about bike safety and the children brought home a checklist for their own bike.If they complete the list and return it, the will get a sticker!
Yesterday we enjoyed the school wide health fair and Relay for Recess.The children had a lot of fun and learned a lot.Be sure to ask which station was their favoirte. 本帖最后由 happyyaya 于 2012-5-16 04:25 编辑

It was a busy week in Kindergarten! Enjoy reading!
In reading we continue to look at strategies to help us be successful readers.Some of these include: using pictures, sounding words out, looking for words within words, and thinking about what makes sense when reading.I am so very happy with everyone's progress.
In kid writing, we listened to "Pete"s White Shoes" and wrote our own extensions to the story.I hope you enjoyed reading your child's "cause and effect" story!
In math we continued working with subtraction and using all the strategies to solve story problems.
This week we had our firstguest readers.Thank you to Mr. Murray and Mr. Elavsky for taking the time to read to us.We LOVED the stories you shared.We still have plenty of openings if you would like to sign up to read to our class.
Today we said goodbye to Misha.He is going on a trip for a while, but we will see him again in 1st grade:)
Today the children were tour guides for the incoming kindergarteners.I was so proud of how polite, well-spoken, and informative they were.They really enjoyed showing the "little kids" around!
