The "Beating the Ghost" ceremony, or "Da Gui" in Chinese, an important Tibetan Buddhist ritual（藏传佛教）, was held at the Yonghegong Lama Temple （喇嘛庙）in Beijing on March 4, 2011.The ceremony is held annually on the eve of the Tibetan New Year（藏历新年）, which begins March 5 this year. It is believed to expel evil spirits, shake off trouble and pacify the world.
China to readjust income distribution to stop yawning gap（巨大差距） BEIJING - Readjusting （重新调整）income distribution （收入分布）in a reasonable manner is both a long-term task （长期任务）and an urgent issue to address（演讲） at present, Premier Wen Jiabao said Saturday in his government work report （政府工作报告）delivered at the parliamentary annual session.
According to Wen, three major measures（主要措施） will be taken in 2011: increasing the basic incomes of low-income people （低收入人群）in both urban and rural areas,（城乡地区） putting more effort into adjusting income distribution, and vigorously overhauling and standardizing income distribution.
"We will steadily increase the minimum wage （最低工资）of workers, basic pensions of enterprise retirees（事业单位退休基本养老金）, and subsistence allowances（生活补助） for both urban and rural residents," Wen said, noting that a sound mechanism of regular pay raises for workers and strictly enforce the minimum wage system will be established. The government will also raise the individual income tax（个人所得税） threshold on salaries, reasonably adjust the tax rate structure, and genuinely reduce the tax burden on low- and middle-income people（中低收入人群）.
"We will effectively regulate excessively high incomes, strengthen the dual controls on total wages and wage scales in industries in which incomes are excessively high, and strictly standardize the management of executive pay and bonuses in SOEs （state-owned enterprises 国有企业）and financial institutions," the premier said. Wen added that illicit income will be resolutely prohibited and a system for monitoring income distribution will be quickly established.
"Through unremitting efforts, we will reverse the trend of a widening income gap as soon as possible and ensure that the people share more in the fruits of reform and development（改革开放）," he said.
