ZT rview of Bud Not Buddy

There are a lot of special points in this book Bud Not Buddy which attract me a lot, but the most interesting one for me is the several RULES AND THINGS which appears wherever little Bud seemed very experienced and had a rule himself. The first time I see these RULES AND THINGS, I am absolutely shocked and very surprised. How old is he? Isn’t he only ten years old? I am already 19 years old, but I have never thought about having a theory like that! And the number of Bud’s theory is quite large. So Bud became a very mature kid in my mind.
From the RULES AND THINGS, we are informed of a lot of characters of Bud. So I think these RULES AND THINGS help us understand the book and the main personage better.
First, Bud is very experienced and mature as I mentioned before. For example, there is a rule about telling a lie. “If you got to tell a lie, make sure it’s simple and easy to remember.” If a ten-year-old boy knows such much about telling a lie, then he must have told a lot of lies. I think maybe being a kid without mom and dad can be hard, this background makes Bud stronger and push him to think more than the other kids. So he is such experienced and mature, just like an adult.
Second, Bud is strong-willed. For example, a rule said “When you make up your mind to do something, hurry up and do it, if you wait you might talk yourself out of what you wanted in the first place. So I believe, with this enthusiasm and passion, Bud is bound to achieve something when he grows up. A little boy can still have such a strong heart, why not me? I think this is the biggest thing I can learn form Bud.
And, I think Bud is still very naive. A rule said “ Gone = Dead”. Bud is only ten years old, too young to know about death. So he could not understand why people always say “gone” instead of “dead”. How can this becomes a rule? Maybe a kid is still so naive that he won’t say “gone” instead of “dead”. That makes this book more interesting and attractive.
Last but not least, Bud is really clever and some of the rules are still available for us today. These RULES AND THINGS are the wisdom of a kid who lived in the 20th century in America, where the society is not quite different from ours. Today there are still a lot of poor people, they struggle just like Bud. We should care more about them, because we are aware of how hard life is for Bud from Bud Not Buddy.
