《秋秋找妈妈》
A Mother for Choco

Choco was a little bird, who lived all alone. He wished hehad a mother, but who could his mother be? One day he set off to find her.

First Choco met Mrs. Giraffe.
“Oh, Mrs. Giraffe!” he cried. “You are yellow just like me! Are you my mother?”
“I’m sorry,” sighed Mrs. Giraffe. “But I don’t have wings like you.”

Next Choco met Mrs. Penguin.
“Oh, Mrs. Penguin!” he cried. “You have wings just like me! Are you my mother?”
“I’m sorry,” sighed Mrs. Penguin. “But I don’t have big, round cheeks likeyou.”

Then Choco met Mrs. Walrus.
“Oh, Mrs. Walrus!” he cried. “You have big, round cheeks just like me. Are youmy mother?”
“Now look,” grumped Mrs. Walrus. “I don’t have striped feet like you, so don’tbother me!”
No matter where Choco searched, he couldn’t find a mother who looked just likehim.

When Choco saw Mrs. Bear picking apples, he knew she couldn’t be his mother.Mrs. Bear didn’t look like him at all.

Choco was so sad he started to cry. “Mommy, mommy! I need a mommy!”
Mrs. Bear came running to see what was the matter. As she listened to Choco’sstory, she sighed. “Oh, dear. If you had a mommy, what would she do?”

“Oh, I’m sure she would hold me,” sobbed Choco.
“Like this?” asked Mrs. Bear. And she held Choco very tight.

“Yes…and I’m sure she would kiss me, too!” said Choco.
“Like this?” asked Mrs. Bear. And she lifted Choco and gave him a big kiss.

“Yes, and I’m sure she would sing and dance with me to cheer me up,” saidChoco.
“Like this?” asked Mrs. Bear. And they sang and danced together.
When they stopped to rest, Mrs. Bear turned to Choco and said, “Choco, maybe Icould be your mother.”
You?” Choco cried.

“But you aren't yellow. And you don’t have wings, or big, round cheeks, or stripedfeet like me!”
“My goodness!” said Mrs. Bear. “That would make me look very funny!” Chocothought it was very funny, too.

“Well,” said Mrs. Bear, “my other children are waiting for me at home. Why don’tyou join us for apple pie, Choco?”
Apple pie sounded wonderful to Choco, so off they went.

When they arrived, Mrs. Bear’s other children rushed out to greet her.
“Choco,” said Mrs. Bear. “Meet Hippy, Ally, and Piggy. I am their mother, too!”

The sweet smell of apple pie and the sound of laughter soon filled Mrs. Bear’shome.

After their delicious treat, Mrs. Bear gave all her children a big, warm bearhug.
And Choco was very happy that his new mommy looked just the way she did.

《狼大叔的红闷鸡》
The Wolf's Chicken Stew

There once lived a wolf who loved to eat more than anything else in the world. As soon as he finished one meal, he began to think of the next.

One day the wolf got a terrible craving for chicken stew.

All day long he walked across the forest in search of a delicious chicken. Finally he spotted one.

"Ah, she is just perfect for my stew," he thought.

The wolf crept closer. But just as he was about to grab his prey...

he had another idea.

"If there were just some way to fatten this bird a little more," he thought, "there would be all the more stew for me." So...

the wolf ran home to his kitchen, and he began to cook.

First he made a hundred scrumptious pancakes. Then, late at night, he left them on the chicken's porch.

"Eat well, my pretty chicken," he cried. "Get nice and fat for my stew!"

The next night he brought  a hundred scrumptious doughnuts.

"Eat well, my pretty chicken," he cried. "Get nice and fat for my stew!"

And on the next night he brought  a scrumptious cake weighing a hundred pounds.

"Eat well, my pretty chicken," he cried. "Get nice and fat for my stew!"

At last, all was ready. This was the night he had been waiting for. He put a large stwe pot on the fire and set out joyfully to find his dinner.

"That chicken must be as fat as a balloon by now," he thought. "Let's see."

But as he peeked into the chicken's house...

the door opened suddenly and the chicken screeched, "Oh, so it was you, Mr. Wolf!"

"Children, children! Look, the pancakes and the doughnuts and that scrumptious cake ---- they weren't from Santa Claus! All those presents were from Uncle Wolf!"

The baby chicks jumped all over the wolf and gave him a hundred kisses.

"Oh, thank you, Uncle Wolf! You're the best cook in the world!"

Uncle Wolf didn't have chicken stew that night but Mrs. Chicken fixed him a nice dinner anyway.

"Aw, shucks," he thought, as he walked home, "maybe tomorrow I'll bake the little critters a hundred scrumptious cookies!"

《我的幸运日》
My lucky day

One day, a hungry fox was preparing to hunt for his dinner. As he polished his claws, he was startled by a knock at the door.

"Hey, Rabbit!" someone yelled outside. "Are you home?"

Rabbit? thought the fox. If there were any rabbits in here, I'd have eaten them for breakfast.

When the fox opened the door, there stood a delicious-looking piglet.

"Oh, no!" screamed the piglet.

"Oh, yes!" cried the fox. "You've come to the right place."

He grabbed the piglet and hauled him inside.

"This must be my lucky day!" the fox shouted. "How often does dinner come knocking on the door?"

The piglet kicked and squealed, "Let me go! Let me go!"

"Sorry, pal," said the fox. "This isn't just any dinner. It's a pig roast. My favorite! Now get into this roasting pan."

It was useless to struggle. "All right," sighed the piglet. "I will. But there is just one thing."

"What?" growled the fox.

"Well, I am a pig, you know. I'm filthy. Shouldn't you wash me first? Just a thought, Mr. Fox."

"Hmmm..." the fox said to himself, "he is filthy."

So the fox got busy.

He collected twigs.

He made a fire.

He carried in the water.

And, finally, he gave the piglet a nice bath.

"You're a terrific scrubber," said the piglet.

"There," said the fox. "Now you're the cleanest piglet in the county. You stay still, now!"

"All right," sighed the piglet. "I will. But..."

"But what?" growled the fox.

"Well, I am a very small piglet, you know. Shouldn't you fatten me up to get more meat? Just a thought, Mr. Fox."

"Hmmm..." the fox said to himself, "he is on the small side."

So the fox got busy.

He picked tomatoes.

He made spaghetti.

He baked cookies.

And, finally, he gave the piglet a nice dinner.

"You're a terrific cook," said the piglet.

"There," said the fox. "Now you're the fattest piglet in the county. So get into the oven!"

"All right," sighed the piglet. "I will. But..."

"What? What? WHAT?" shouted the fox.

"Well, I am a hardworking pig, you know. My meat is awfully tough. Shouldn't you massage me first to make a more tender roast? Just a thought, Mr. Fox."

"Hmmm..." the fox said to himself, "I do prefer tender meat."

So the fox got busy.

He pushed...

and he pulled.

He squeezed and he pounded the piglet from head to toe.

"You give a terrific massage," said the piglet.

"But," the piglet continued, "I've been working really hard lately. My back is awfully stiff. Could you push a bit harder, Mr. Fox? A little to the right, please... yes, yes... now just a little to the left..."

"Mr. Fox, are you there?"

But Mr. Fox was no longer listening. He had passed out, exhausted. He couldn't lift a finger, let alone a roasting pan.

"Poor Mr. Fox," sighed the piglet. "He's had a busy day." Then the cleanest, fattest and softest piglet in the county picked up the rest of his cookies and headed for home.

"What a bath! What a dinner! What a massage!" cried the piglet. "This must be my lucky day!"

When he got home, the piglet relaxed before a warm fire. "Let's see," he wondered, looking at his address book. "Who shall I visit next?"

"Gee, I hope she says'yes,'" thought Mr.Pig. But he was worried, so he took a flower to impress her.
On the way to Miss Pig's house, he met his friend the Fox. When the Fox heard about the picnic, he said,"Let me give you some advice, Mr.Pig. Borrow my beautiful tail."
"There, you see how foxy you look? Miss Pig will like that," said the Fox. Mr.Pig was pleased.
Then he met his friend the Lion. When the Lion heard about the picnic, he said, "Let me give you some advice, Mr.Pig, Borrow my beautiful hair."
"There, you see how courageous you look? Miss Pig will like that," said the Lion. Mr.Pig was pleased.
Then he met his friend the Zebra. When the Zebra heard about the picnic, he said, "Let me give you some advice, Mr.Pig. Borrow my beautiful stripes."
"There, you see how handsome you look? Miss Pig will like that," said the Zebra. Mr.Pig was pleased. He had never felt so handsome.
He finally arrived at Miss Pig's house and knocked on the door.
"Will you go on a picnic with me?" he asked.
Miss Pig was shocked. "Oh,no!"she said. "Who is this monster? If you don't go away, I'll call Mr.Pig. He will take care of you."
Mr.Pig ran back the way he came. He returned the tail to the Fox, the hair to the Lion, and the stripes to the Zebra.
And then he hurried back to Miss Pig's house, and once more he knocked on the door.
"Will you go on a picnic with me?" he asked again.
"Oh, Mr.Pig!" she cried. "I'm so glad to see you. Just now there was an ugly monster right here in this yard. I'd love to go on a picnic with you, Mr.Pig."
All the way to the picnic, Miss Pig talked about the monster who had visited her house. Her handsome friend Mr.Pig listened sympathetically.
It was a perfect day for a picnic.
