Morning, Noon. and Night.
Somewhere, hidden amongst thorny brambles, is a little kingdom of elves and fairies.
Everyone who lives here is very, very small.
BEN: I’m Ben Elf. *boo*
HOLLY: And I’m Princess Holly.
Come on, let’s play!
BEN: Wait for us!
*Both giggle*
Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom.
Today’s adventure starts at The Great Elf Tree.
Morning, Noon. and Night.
*Alarm rings*
Ben: Seven o’clock. Time to get up.
Mr. Elf: Ben~ Breakfast’s ready.
Ben: Thanks Dad.
Mrs. Elf: Right Ben. Let’s get your hair brushed.
Mr. Elf: Let’s get your elf hat on.
Mrs. Elf: Don’t forget your new watch. There! Now you’re ready for school.
Ben: But Mom. Elf school doesn’t start for ages. Can I go and see Holly? I want to show her my new watch.
Mrs Elf: OK. But make sure you get to school on time.
Ben: Of course I will. Elves are never late, and I’m an elf *boo**chuckles* *Slams*
Mrs Elf: Phew. Mr Elf, mornings are such hard work.
Mr Elf: I should say so?
Nanny: That’s the cock crows Princess Holly. Time’s for fairies to get up.
Holly: Is it morning already?
Nanny: Breakfast’s ready Holly.
Holly: Thank you Nanny Plum.
Queen Thistle: Let’s get your hair brushed Holly.
King Thistle: And Here is your crown.
Queen Thistle: All done. Mornings are such hard work.
*bell rings*
Ben: Hello Nanny Plum.
Nanny: What is it Ben. I haven’t got time to be answering doors to elves.
Ben: Can Holly come out to play.
Nanny: I’m afraid Princess Holly is too busy to…
Holly: Hi Ben.
Ben: Hi Holly. I got a new watch.
Holly: Wow! Is it a real watch?
Ben: Yes. You can hear it ticking.
Holly: Oh yes. Can you tell the time Ben?
Ben: Not yet. But we’re going to learn how to tell time at school today.
Nanny: Yes. Well, I’m sure you don’t want to be late.
Ben: I’m an elf. Elves are never late *boo* Bye Holly.
Holly: Bye Ben. I wish I had a watch.
Nanny: Whatever for Princess Holly?
Holly: If I had a watch, I can tell the time.
Nanny: We fairies don’t need watches. We have different ways of telling the time.
Holly: Like what, Nanny?
Nanny: We have dandelion clocks.
Nanny: Here is a good one.
Holly: How did a dandelion tell the time.
Nanny: We count how many puffs it takes to blow away all the seeds. Like this. *blows* one. *blows* two. *blows* three. It took three puffs. That means three o’clock.
Holly: hehe. I want to go. *blows* one.
Nanny: That means one o’clock.
Holly: Wow, so is it really one o’clock?
Nanny: *chuckles* Not really. It’s just a game.
Holly: But Ben’s learning to tell the time properly. Can I go to his lesson?
Nanny: Uh. Alright. But I’m sure it won’t be much fun.
Wise Old Elf: When the big hand and the little hand are pointing straight up, it is twelve o’clock.
Nanny: Hello, Wise Old Elf.
Wise Old Elf: Uh. Good day, Nanny Plum.
Nanny: Can we join you?
Wise Old Elf: Yes? As long as You’re quiet.
Nanny: Righto.
Wise Old Elf: Hm. Now. Who can tell me how we know a watch is working.
Holly: We can hear it ticking.
Wise Old Elf: Yes Holly. Very good.
Nanny: You see? We fairies know all about time.
Wise Old Elf: But you fairies don’t have watches or clocks.
Nanny: We have our own ways of telling the time.
Wise Old Elf: Hm. I’m sure you do. Now, how do we know when to wake up in the morning.
Ben: The alarm clock rings.
Wise Old Elf: Correct!
Holly: I wake up when the cock crows. COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO.
Wise Old Elf: Yes I see. And how do we know when it’s time to go to sleep.
Ben: When the clock says it’s bed time.
Wise Old Elf: Yes. Correct again!
Holly: I go to sleep when the owl hoots. TWIT-TWOO.
Wise Old Elf: But without clocks, how do you know what time it is.
Nanny: We have dandelion clocks. Look. *blows* One.
Barnaby: Can I have a go? *blows*
Nanny: Two.
Elf Girl: And me. *blows*
Nanny: Three. That means three o’clock.
*Children Laughing*
Wise Old Elf: Stop. Stop. STOP! That’s all fairy non-sense.
Ben: *laughs* But it’s fun!
Wise Old Elf: Fun has nothing to do with telling the time. I don’t suppose you fairies can tell me what time it is now.
Holly: It’s noon.
Wise Old Elf: Ah. Yes Holly. Well done.
Ben: Wow. How did you know that.
Holly: Because the sun is high up in the sky.
*belly rumbles*
Nanny: And I know it’s lunch time, because my tummy is rumbling.
Wise Old Elf: Hohoho. How silly!
Nanny: Excuse me! My tummy is never wrong!
*clock struck*
Wise Old Elf: Oh. It is lunch time. School is finished for today.
Children: Hurray!
Ben: Holly, would you like to come over to play this afternoon?
Holly: Yes!
Ben: OK. See you later alligator.
Holly: In a while crocodile.
Ben: hmm. It’s almost six o’clock. Where’s Holly?
Holly: Hi Ben.
Ben: You’re late!
Holly: Fairies are always late. And I’m a fairy. *waves wand*
Ben: *giggles* Hurry up! I got something to show you.
*run up stairs*
Holly: What’s that noise.
Ben: You’ll see.
Holly: *pants* Are we there yet?
Ben: Nearly. This way.
Wise Old Elf: Hello Princess Holly.
Holly: Hello Wise Old Elf.
Wise Old Elf: This is The Great Elf Clock.
Holly: Wow!
Wise Old Elf: The most accurate clock of all.
Holly: What does accurate mean?
Ben: It means it always tells the right time.
Wise Old Elf: Quite so Ben. I set it every night by the distant bells. They usually ring about now.
*hums* *belly rumbles*
Nanny: Oh. My tummy’s rumbling. That means it’s time for dinner..Dinner time..*rings bell*… Dinner time.
[Bell is ringing]
Wise Old Elf: The bells. The bells. Now I need to adjust the clock.
Holly: But that’s just the Nanny Plum.
Wise Old Elf: What do you mean?
Holly: Nanny rings the bell every night when it’s dinner time.
Wise Old Elf: *clear throat* and How does Nanny Plum know if dinner time.
Holly: When her tummy rumbles.
Wise Old Elf: What? You mean I’ve been setting The Great Clock to a fairy’s tummy rumble?
Holly: Yes. hehe.
*clock strikes*
Wise Old Elf: hohoho. Her tummy does seem to be amazingly accurate. It IS dinner time.
*ALL Laugh*
Holly: Bye Ben.
Ben: See you tomorrow Holly.
King Thistle: And the beautiful princess live happily ever after. The End. Time’s to sleep Holly.
Holly: But Daddy. The owl hasn’t hooted yet. *owl hoots*
King Thistle: There’s the owl now.
Mrs Elf: And the fierce dragon ate the witch. And everyone lived happily ever after. The End. Time’s to sleep Ben.
Ben: But Mom, clock hasn’t chimed yet. *clock chimes*
Mrs Elf: Ah. It’s chiming now.
King Thistle: Goodnight Holly.
Mrs Elf: Goodnight Ben.
