第六步， 学习Dolch Signt words (要求整体拼读的220 个词语）这一步也可以放在第二步之后， 也就是学完了26个字母之后来学习。 由于英语不像其他一些西方语言（德语和西班牙语， 字母和字母发音一一对应）， 他们的字母和字母在单词中的读音有一些例外， 只有70% 左右的单词符合Phonics的读音规则。 这就会导致即使学习了Phonics 读音规则， 还是有一些会读错或是不知道怎么读。Dolch Signt Words就是不符合phonics读音规则的高频词，在儿童读物中最常出现的220 个词汇。 这些词汇就不能用phonics 来拼读了， 需要整体认读， 就是看见就能读出来。
第七步， 学习 Word Families
第八步， 学习 同音字（一些发音相同， 但拼写完全不同的一些词汇）。
其中， 第六步可以放在第三步之后学习。 第四， 五， 六步可以同时进行。 这要看每个孩子的不同情况来掌握。
