“What a wonderful world”是由 Bob Thiele 和 George David Weiss 共同创作， 1968年由 Louis Armstrong 首次录制并以单曲发行。1999年被 “格莱美名人堂”收录。歌曲是在上世纪六十年代美国日益紧张的种族和政治问题背景下创作的，歌曲中以婴儿的新生来表达对新的生活的向往和对未来的憧憬。歌曲一开始并没有在美国引起多大反响，只不到1000张唱片。但是在英国取得巨大成功，一下子就取得周单曲第一的好成绩，也成为1968年英国销量单曲冠军。而Louis Armstrong也成为年龄最大的单曲冠军，时年66岁。
歌曲在Louis Armstrong 死后，于1971年重新在美国发行并进入排行榜前十。1988年，Louis Armstrong 1968年的版本被电影 《早安，越南》中收录 并重新以单曲发行。1996年上映的电影《Twelve Monkeys》也将此曲作为片尾曲。
“What a wonderful world” 经历半个世纪以来，被无数的歌手翻唱，也被改编成乐器演奏曲。现在已成为欧美音乐的一首长久不衰的经典歌曲。翻唱者有Rod stewart、Tony Bennett & K.D Lang、Celine Dion、Sarah Brightman、Michael Buble、Eva Cassidy，国内有邓丽君、林忆莲、陈奕迅、万芳等。
