His first event was the Race to 500 Toys. Orion collected toys to donate to kids in a hospital in Texas. Being in the hospital is difficult for kids. Orion wanted to make them feel better.
"I knew that I could help," said Orion, who is now 10 years old. "And that made me want to." His toy drive donated 619 toys to the hospital.
That success led to an even bigger project last fall. It was called the Race to 100,000 Meals. Orion says that many people did not have food. Many people had to wait in long lines to get meals. Orion knew he could help.
Orion partnered with TangoTab. It is a group that connects food donors to people in need. He has volunteered with TangoTab since second grade. The event collected more than 100,000 meals for families.
Orion loves to read. He loves how a good story can transport him to an imaginary world. He wants more people to experience that. He recently started the Race to 500,000 Books. The drive collects books to donate to people in need.
You can mail or drop off books to Orion. He will be taking donations until July 31. Or, you can start your own book drive.
