Students will encounter new words and concepts. They'll read about the fall of
Constantinople in 1453, when it faced the first cannon. They’ll read about how Mark Twain
won his only duel with pistols. They’ll also learn about the blunderbuss, and the
horseback riders who used them.Other subjects in the book include Jesse James, the bank
robber, the Gatling gun in the Civil War, and why General Custer lost his battle with
Native Americans.
Most of the book’s images are illustrations and appropriate photographs. These are most
effective when read on a Kindle Fire, or the Kindle Application on a tablet device, or PC.
They can be viewed clearly on black and white readers. Only the color dimension is lacking.
Children will also find answers to kid-style questions.

Teachers and home schooling parents will find this book a strong, fact-based addition to
their nonfiction libraries. It does not address politics. It provides selected passages on
