Chapter Three

I walked past the luggage claim area and saw a great deal of people at the airport pick up place----business men, rookies, school girls, old couples... And there were so many big size name tags.

I looked around and saw a very prominent board that had my name on it. I shouldered my way toward the lovely board. And saw a very handsome middle age man standing there gracefully, I scanned the people around him----and saw a bunch of girls near him whispering and eyeing him, silly smiles (and is that drools I was seeing??) on their faces. I looked back at the man, he was standing very straight, doing his best to avoid the girls’ glances. But somehow, I am sure he was not my Dad.

The man saw me walking over and walked toward me. “Are you Miss Mackenzie Carter?” As I nodded, he picked up my bags.

“Thank you.” I studied him. He was about seven foot four. He had fair hair and stunning features if not for the fresh scar above his right eye. And the eyes, the eyes were black, the color of the darkest night, but the deep black was ringed by a shallow of violet. He had the kind of eyes that can see through like you can hide nothing, beautiful eyes. “Where’s my Dad?”

He smiled. “How can you be so sure that I’m not your Dad?”

“Gut, I never met him but I gut know what he’s like. Answer my question. And who are you?” I hated people answering my question with a question.

“My name is Sebastian. Mr. Carter left yesterday. He wanted me to serve you as a butler. And train you combat.” He said, calmer than ever.

Combat, really? When I was in LA, Hudson taught me combat all the time. “Oh, please. I know how to----” Just when I’m saying this, his hand suddenly shot out. I dodged it and kicked him in the stomach, hard. The girls beside us screamed as he grunted, then he sent his right leg into my kneecap. I fell, and Sebastian pinned me on the ground. Somehow he did all of this very gracefully.

“Do you really, Miss?” He smirked.

I sighed and rolled my eyes, “Fine, I don’t. I need to learn more. Blah, blah, blah.”

“Now, we better get out before security came to arrest us.” He stood and pulled me up.

I snickered. “I bet you can take on all of them, comrade.”

“Hey, you two! Don’t move! Don’t try to run!” A middle aged guy with a bushy mustache came running toward us.

“Do we look like we’re trying to run?” I muttered, turning to Sebastian, “Do we even need to run?”

To my surprise, he nodded and said, “Follow me, Miss.”

We jogged through the parking lot and stopped in front of a black Maybach.

“So this is your car?” I asked in awe.

He smirked again, “If I have this car, pigs will be flying.” He opened the door for me, “No, Miss, this car is one of yours.”

“Mine? My own car?” As he nodded, I whooped and said, “Can I drive it? Please, please, please, please let me drive it!”

“Miss, how old are you? Twelve, right? You’re expecting me to let a twelve year old who sounds like a two year old to drive the car that has me inside?” He eyed me and said in a very doubtful voice, “Do you even know how to drive?”

“Are you kidding me? Who says I sound like a two year old! And by the way, comrade, of course I know how to drive, if not because of the age limits, I would have already got my driver’s license!” I snorted.

He leaned down, black eyes looking straight at mine, “You, are acting like a two year old right now. And if you don’t want to be caught by security, then get in!”

I was about to gave him another of my snarky comments, when I heard footsteps running toward us.

“Ok, ok, you’re right. Blah, blah, blah.” I made a face at him and got in the car.

He seated himself behind the wheel, “Seat belts.”

I fastened my seat belt, and we drove off. I looked out the window, staring at the buildings we past by. Then without knowing it, I dozed off. I woke up just as the car stopped in front of a huge mansion, it was almost like a castle.

“Wow.” I was so amazed I didn’t even know what to say.

        It had (豪宅的描述暂缺,还木有幻想出来

“Yeah, I know. Wow.” He said, that smirk visible on his face again. “This house is your home as long as you are in New York.”

“Jesus! Did my dad left me this?” I asked, still in awe. “I know he is rich, but I don’t know he’s that rich!”

“Well, your daddy has a lot of houses, most of them bigger then this one.” He said as he carried all my bags. “Let’s go inside.”

Sebastian pushed open the door and walked in, leaving me drooling on the front steps. I slapped myself on the face, twice.

Someone snickered softly behind me. I turned and saw a girl, a very pretty girl, not too much older than me, about sixteen or seventeen. She had curly fair hair and gorgeous grey eyes, but like Sebastian’s eyes, hers were ringed by violet too, a little darker than his. Weird. Even more weird, she looked familiar, I felt like I saw her somewhere before.

Sebastian’s head popped back out, “Sorry, I forgot to introduce you two, Miss Carter, this is Sally, she will serve you as your personal maid in this house. Sally, this is your mistress, Miss Carter.” He turned to me and said in a very serious tone, “Oh and Miss?”

“Yeah?” I thought he was going to tell me something important.

He gave me a wicked grin. “You still want to slap your face, I could slap it for you.”

“You really are a very weird, different and black hearted butler, you know?” I had the urge to kick him in the stomach again. Then it hit me. “Are you guys related?” I asked, curious but reluctant.

The maid smiled, “What makes you think that, Mistress?”

“Well, the eyes, the hair, the features and the accent.” I said matter-of-factly, a little bit proud of myself.

As I expected, they said in unison, “What accent?” Sebastian added, “We don’t know what you are talking about.”

“Sure you do.” I said “You are speaking in perfect American English, but if someone listens carefully, they can hear the British accent underneath.”

They both frowned and opened their mouths, trying to say something. But I continued before they said a word. “I didn’t finish. I know you are going to deny me. Yes, you’re not British, but I’m sure you guys spoke with the British accent with at least two years. You two are Russians. To have the British accent, you have to practice at least two or three years, and switching in to American accent, maybe a year or two?”

Seeing their shocked faces, I smiled with satisfaction. “Well, don’t just stand their open mouthed, am I right or am I right?”

Sebastian was the first one to recover, he clapped. “Très bien! Bravo! Yes, yes, Sally is my daughter, and I had a younger son, James. Yes, we’re Russians, we lived in London for two years three months and six days, then we moved to America and met Mr. Carter.”

“How many kinds of language do you guys speak?” The amazing thing about these two was----they acted dumb. When I asked them this, they actually started counted by their fingers!

        “Seven.” the butler said.

        “Nine.” His daughter said.

I gawked at them. I thought I knew too many kinds of language. “Five.” I blurted.

“No offense, but I’m impressed, Miss.” Sebastian took a double take as he said that.

I scowled at him, “I’m not the spoiled little princess everyone thinks I am!”

He looked at me apologetically “Sorry, I thought all of your genes came from your dad.”

I scoffed, “Whatever. I have never seen my Dad or my Mom before. Who knows where all my genes come from.” I eyed the house. “I’m going inside.”

I wondered inside, Sebastian hollered after me. “Miss, your room is the second room on the left side of the second floor. Sally will give you a tour later.”

“Got it.” I waved my hand to dismiss them.

I wondered up the stairs and found my room. It’s a really big room. A soft and fluffy bed, enough for at least four kid my size to sleep. A big screen TV and a lot of other fancy things. I didn’t wonder around, I was too tired to do anything. I haven’t been sleeping since yesterday. The clock on the wall said----eight o’clock.

I flopped onto the bed. God I’m so tired!

There was nagging thought in my head. Something Sebastian had said. And I had a younger son, James. James. Wasn’t that the name of the vampire boy I met at the Vampy Hotel?

Things were getting more and more interesting. I smiled to myself.

Before long, I drifted to sleep.
