The year is 1853, and the place isCalifornia. People are coming to California from many countries. They arelooking for gold. They think that they are going to get rich. Levi is one ofthese people. He’s twenty-four years old, and he too wants to get rich. He isfrom Germany. He has cloth from Germany to make tents for the gold miners.
A mad asks him: “What are going to do with that cloth?”
Levi answers: “I am going to make tents.”
The man says: “I don’t need a tent, but I want to astrong pair of pants.
Lookat my pants. They’re full of holes.”
Levi makes a pair ofpants from the strong cloth. The man is happy with the pants. They’re a big success!Soon everyone wants to a pair of pants, just like the man’s pair. Levi makesone more, hundreds more, thousand more!

Staying HealthyTo stay healthy, we should eat a varied andbalanced diet. We also need to drink plenty of water, and get enough rest, andexercise. Water is very important for our bodies. It helps to keep our bodiesat the right temperature, to flush out impurities, and to carry nutrientsaround. Good health also involves eating the right amount of items from thefour main food groups. The four main food groups are; carbohydrates, proteins,fats, vitamins, and minerals. Each of them does something for our bodies.Carbohydrates give us energy. They arefound in foods such as bread, potatoes and pasta. Proteins help our bodies torepair themselves and they also build strong muscles. They are found in foodssuch as fish, meat, nuts, seeds, eggs and cheese. Fats give our bodies energythat can be stored and provide a fat layer under our skin to keep us warm. Theyare found in foods such as butter, cheese and fried foods. Vitamins andminerals help with all sorts of jobs around our bodies such as healing cuts,building strong bones and teeth, making blood, and keeping our brain working!Vitamins and minerals are found in all types of foods. The best way to makesure you are getting all your vitamins and minerals is to eat many differenttypes of foods. If you eat he right things and drink a lot of water then youbody will stay healthy and you may live a long time.
