3. Sky Bear's Gift
Long ago, it was summer all the time.
The sun shone brightly from morning until night.
“It’s too hot” said mouse.
“You are right” said owl, “But what can we do? ”
Fox said, “We must travel to sky bear. She will help us.”
So the animals crossed the desert to the pathway of stars.
When they reached sky bear’s lodge, she greeted them kindly.
“Why have you come such a long way?” she asked.
Fox replied, “It’s too hot where we live.”
“I can help.” said sky bear.
She gave them three bags.
Then said “Do not open these until you return to Earth”
The animal traveled back down the pathway of stars.
When they reached the Earth, fox opened one bag.
Out came the wind.
Owl opened another bag. Out came the rain.
Mouse opened the last bag. Out came the snow.
And from that day, the seasons change, and there is an end to summer.
