最近可能对sci-fi比较感兴趣，今天又拿回来一本Pocket Sci-fi, 这次是《Friends and Foes》。里面有两个故事，分别是：
Dave's Diary by Jenny Blackford;
Flamed by Catherine S McMullen.
第一个故事由于是个日记，所以用词比较简朴，但同时也比较贴近生活，文中写道：
Monday 1 March
Nothing much to report this afternoon. I thought I heard weired noises in the garden last night, and a greenish-yellow-grey light was coming in through the blinds. But when I got up to look out of the window, I couldn't see anything, and the noises had stpped. Maybe it was just a nightmare.
After a while I woke up again, and I thougt I heard a sort of slidey, cratchy, bubbly noise in Kate's room.
Still, with her it could have been anything. She was probably secretly making a skirt so short and tight that even Dad wouldn't let her wear it, and it's pretty hard to shock an old pippie like him.
School was OK. I quite enjoyed the maths, but I'll never admit it to a human being. It's good to have you, Diary, to tell the things I can't tell anyone else.
I am going to take Spike for a w-a-l-k now, down by the river. I'll see if Danny wants to take Fred, too.
Fred's quite bright for a puppy, but not as smart as Spike.

Oxford Reading Tree: Stage 12: TreeTops Myths and Legends: King Midas and other tales
这本书讲了三个分别来自 Bolivia，China和Ancient Greece的故事，他们的一个共同特点就是讲述人们为了金子和银子会怎样的不惜代价。
今年是蛇年，我就特别推荐一段把snake当做动词来形容山谷的：
Long ago there was a deep valley which snaked between two mountains. The people who lived in the valley looked up at the two mountains and were thankful. The mountains brought them shelter. The mountains brought them rain. And when the snow melted on their peaks, the rivers ran from them like silver ribbons deep into the valley.

请问一下楼主，孩子近阶段阅读的书，程度跟A TO Z和老鼠记者这两本对比起来，难度怎么样？

特意做了对比。个人认为，作为丛书， A to Z 和Geronimo Stilton都不可避免的需要针对范围稍微广一点的读者，在趣味性很高的前提下，降低了词汇的用量。
作为level reader，牛津树首先篇幅较短，一会功夫就能读完，其次词汇量肯定是有针对性，但最重要的一点是牛津树前期铺点以后，高stages的目标是传播文学和古典文化。相对于AtoZ和GS的通俗，牛津树是不是可以定义为比较“古典”。
话句话说，AtoZ和GS是用来读的（你注意一下书评，普遍是love to read，exciting，激发了阅读的兴趣等），牛津树是可以用来学习的（用词更加精美细腻，还有很多经典和神话的浓缩）。
瞎说的，不一定对。

昨天忘了带书回家里，今天放学又去同学家里Play date，明天外公又要回去。事情都赶到了一起，时间就比较紧张。所以虽然儿子要求我和他一起读，但读了一半觉得再读下去，就要十点关灯了，最后一起读了半本（两个人轮流朗读比较花时间），他自己读了半本。
今天的书名叫 The twelfth floor kids.讲的是同住在beechtree flats 12楼的amy, dan, seeta 和eddie的故事。
(stage 1 - modern realistic novel, Literacy World by Heinmann)
High on the twelfth floor of Beechtree Flats, Amy has a surprise, Eddie gets into trouble, and Dan has some clever ideas for catching a burglar. But Seeta sees something mysterious coming out of the lift. What could it be?
