Young chefs from across the country battle it out to impress judges John and Donal by cooking up delicious meals from scratch.
There were over two thousand applicants for the first series of Junior MasterChef. Out of two thousand, only thirty one chefs were successful and made it through to the heats.
From each heat, one chef was chosen for the quarter- final and then from the quarter- final group, two chefs proceeded to the semi-finals. The four chefs in the semi- final were
11-year-old Amber, 12-year-old Georgia, 12-year-old Hajra and 11-year-old George. In the first part of the semi-final, the chefs were asked to cook both the Doctor and his Companion, Amy Pond, from Doctor Who's favourite dishes. The task in the second part of the semi- final was to make food for the British boy band, JLS based on their favourite dishes and also to cook food for three authors: Andy Stanton, Dame Jacqueline Wilson and Charlie Higson.
In the grand finale, the four chefs, who were the same as those from the semi- final, were asked to make their own three course meal for the presenters. They received very good comments from the judges. The eventual winner was 13-year-old Georgia Bradford from Leigh-on-Sea.[6]
The second series, which features cooks aged between eight and 13 years old, consisted of 15 half-hour episodes: eight heats, two quarterfinals, four semi-finals and a final cook-off.

The first four cooks try to make John's fish and chip recipe fantastic.

Can the contestants make John's pain perdu dessert to-die-for?
Episode 3
Four cooks prepare dishes including teriyaki salmon and chicken in pancetta.

It is quarter-final day, and the four winning cooks return to dazzle the judges.
Episode 6
Four cooks try to perfect John's pad thai dish, and whip up meals including chicken balti.

Four cooks try to perfect John's profiteroles, before cooking international favourites.

Four cooks tackle John's pate and toast dish, and make favourites including prawn curry.
Episode 9
Four cooks take on John's poached pear, and make favourites including chocolate lasagne.
Episode 10
Four winning cooks face a taste test, before making dishes including sweet potato ravioli.
Episode 11
The final four chefs face cooking in a professional kitchen.
Episode 12
Reigning Junior MasterChef champion Georgia and finalists return for a special tasting.
Episode 13
The finalists are given the challenge of feeding a Notting Hill Carnival band.
Episode 14
The four finalists must impress the 10-year-old stars of Matilda the Musical.
Episode 15
The four finalists have one last chance to impress the judges with a three-course menu.
