K1
Personal, Social and Physical Development (Term 1)K1 children have been settling into the routines of their new class and kindergarten. They have been workingon developing independence skills such packing and unpacking school bags and putting on their shoes andsocks. The children have had the opportunity to play alongside and cooperatively with other children, and tolearn the skills of sharing and turn taking. Children have been learning to make choices in their learning and todemonstrate interest and curiosity. Over the term, K1 children have been practising pencil grip and grossmotor skills such as climbing, running and jumping.Teacher's comment:William has settled well into the kindergarten environment and displays goodself-help skills when unpacking his school bag and finding his self-registration card.He is an outgoing child who enjoys interacting with adults and peers. Williamaccesses resources independently and engages in a variety of play areas. Here, hedisplays an increasing understanding of the importance of sharing and turn-takingbut needs occasional reminders of this. However, as the term has progressed, hebegan to play more co-operatively with his peers. William shows good fine motorskills by using scissors effectively and holding writing tools with confidence, usingthree fingers. In the physical area, he shows good gross motor skills such asrunning, climbing or jumping.
Next steps:• To be able to play co-operatively, sharing and taking turns with his friends.• To hold writing tools between thumb and two fingersMathematics (Term 1)We have been using numbers and mathematical concepts in our play and learning about numbers andpatterns within our environment. We have been encouraged to recognise numbers, count with 1-1correspondence and sequencing numbers.
Teacher's comment:William displays good counting skills. He can recite numbers beyond 50independently and can count objects with 1:1 correspondence confidently. Williamrecognises numbers to 20 and is able to order numbers to 10. He enjoys mathsactivities such as puzzles and is keen to have a go at new challenges. William canrecognise a variety of patterns and created his own pattern in wet sandindependently, using shapes, mark-making tools. In addition to this, he isdeveloping his understanding of repeated patterns.

K1 Chinese (Term 1)This term children in K1 have developed understanding of Chinese by:• Participating in shared reading in Chinese• Participating in songs, repeated phrases and Chinese rhymes• Attempting to mimic Chinese sounds and wordsTeacher's CommentChild has a secure understanding of simple Chinese and is able to respond in ameaningful way.
