Looking at words and Letters
1. Ask your child to circle the words that start with “b”.
2. Ask your child to find a line in the poem that has more than two “m” words and then circle them.
Playing with Sounds
1. Say the word Mack. Ask your child to name some words that rhyme with it (back, clack, pack, sack, track). On blank paper, list the words.
2. Say, I’ll stretch some words. You tell me what the word is:
bl…a…k(black)
b…a…k(back)
3. Say, I’ll say two words. Raise your hand if they start the same:
Mary,mother
black,back
elephants,fence
Beginning to Read
1. Write these words on index cards or little slips of paper: pat, cake, man, bake, rain, lamb, made, Mack, black, pack. Ask your child to sort the words into two categories: long “a” (cake, bake, rain, made) and short “a” (pat, man, lamb, Mack, black, pack). 这些单词都在前几首韵律中出现过。
2. Using the same word cards, ask your child to group rhyming words together. Then ask your child to add words to each group.
3. Ask your child to find and circle the color words in poem.
4. Write back on a sheet of paper. Point out the –ack word family. Together, brainstorm, write, and read other words that belong to the –ack word family (back, pack, sack).
5. Together, choose two or three words from the poem. Add them to your word wall and practice these words daily. Or add them to your child’s word bank (a collection of words on cards, one word per card).
