In the mirror
What do I see?
Someone special,
That is me!
My eyes, my ears,
My lips, my nose.
No one’s looks are
Just like those!

Looking at words and Letters
1. Ask your child to count the lines in the poem.
2. Say, Underline the first word in the poem. Now underline the last word in the poem.
3. Ask your child to find and circle the words that start with M, m. Have him or her practice writing the letter M, m.
Playing with Sounds
1. Say, I'll say two word. Clap your hands if they rhyme,
see,me
see,someone
nose,those
2. Ask your child which word doesn't belong in each group of three. Ask your child for reasons.

3. Say, Let's take the “s” off the word see. What if it started with “b”? What is the new word?
(be or bee) Repeat with “fr”, “m”, and “sh”.
Beginning to Read
1. Ask your child to underline words that name body parts.
2. Invite your child to draw a picture of him- or herself and label eyes, ears, lips, and nose, as in the poem.
3. Ask your child to find and circle the words that have two syllables or beats. (mirror, someone, special)
4. Write see and me on a sheet of paper. Point out the word endings –ee and –e. Together, brainstorm, write, and read other words that rhyme and belong to these word families.
5. Together, choose two or three words from the poem. Add them to your word wall and practice these words daily. Or add them to your child's word bank (a collection of words on cards, one word per card).
