作者简介
《地板下的小人》的作者玛丽·诺顿(1903——1992)是英国儿童文学女作家。
童年主要在贝德福德郡的乡村庄园里度过，她的许多作品都以此为创作背景。她毕业于修道院学校。年轻时，她当过老
牌的老维克剧团演员。这个剧团以上演莎士比亚的戏剧著称。1927年她与出生于船运世家的罗伯特·C·诺顿结婚，同
丈夫—道到葡萄牙定居。第二次世界大战期间她丈夫在海军服役，她和四个孩子住在美国。
诺顿在1943年开始写童话。她的第一本儿童文学作品《神奇的床捏手》就是在纽约出版的。后来全家回到英国定居。
1952年诺顿写出了第一本以“借东西的地下小人”为主角的童话，就叫《借东西的地下小人》，获得同年卡内基儿童文
学奖，1960年又获得了路易斯·卡罗尔书籍奖(路易斯·卡罗尔就是《爱丽丝漫游奇境记》的作者)。
由于这部童话大受欢迎，作者接下来又写了四部。第五部，也是至今为止的最后一部“借东西的地下小人”故事，作者
是在1971年写的。这些作品使她成为战后英国儿童文坛上的主要作家之一。
