A lavender rat, which has escaped from a laboratory, accidentally stows away on a space station. In addition to the scientists, technicians, and astronauts on board, a lonely young boy attracts the rat's attention, and she watches him in an effort to get food. When the two encounter each other, the boy is amazed to discover that the rat has been trained to communicate in sign language and by typing. The two misfits begin a friendship based on need, as they fight off efforts to discover and stamp out the stowaway.

Editorial Reviews
From Booklist
In this follow-up to Space Station Rat (2005), Jeff and his superintelligent rodent friend, Rat, are still stuck in space. Jeff is looking forward to returning to Earth with Rat, but the adults have more sinister plans for Rat. Added threats come from a babysitting robot and from a nefarious scientist, but the intervention of another supersmart machine saves the day. The story’s conclusion suggests that Jeff and Rat will have more adventures in future installments. Although not as fast moving as the first title, this will still appeal to young science-fiction fans. Grades 4-6. --Todd Morning
About the Author
Michael J. Daley has enjoyed a lifelong love of science, spaceships, and science fiction. He writes his stories on a solar-powered laptop in a five-foot by five-foot square tower room. This keeps him well acquainted with the cramped conditions in spaceships and space stations! There's a warm place in his heart for rodents of all kinds—unless they are chewing acorns in the tower walls. When not traveling the stars, Michael lives in Westminster, Vermont with his wife, children's author Jessie Haas. Visit his website
