Audible Summary
Middle Earth is within earshot and Gandalf is looking for someone to share in an adventure. Why not come along?
Like every other hobbit, Bilbo Baggins likes nothing better than a quiet evening in his snug hole in the ground, dining on a sumptuous dinner in front of a fire. But when a wandering wizard captivates him with tales of the unknown, Bilbo becomes restless. Soon he joins the wizard's band of homeless dwarves in search of giant spiders, savage wolves, and other dangers. Bilbo quickly tires of the quest for adventure and longs for the security of his familiar home. But before he can return to his life of comfort, he must face the greatest threat of all—a treasure-troving dragon named Smaug.
In this fantasy classic, master storyteller J.R.R. Tolkien creates a bewitching world filled with delightful creatures and thrilling dangers.
Performed with as much imagination and originality as Tolkien conjured to create this epic, narrator Rob Inglis will hold listeners of all ages spellbound with his skillful portrayal of hobbits, dwarves, and enchanted beasts.

Audible Summary
If only we could all stay in that safe verdant shire, listening to Rob Inglis' mellifluous English accent trip and twirl through Tolkien's fanciful story while we eat and relax. Alas, an epic and dangerous adventure awaits.
Inspired by The Hobbit and begun in 1937, J.R.R. Tolkien created The Lord of the Rings volumes to provide "the necessary background of history for Elvish tongues." From these academic aspirations was born one of the most popular and imaginative works in English literature.
The Fellowship of the Ring , the first book, tells of the fateful power of the One Ring. It begins a magnificent tale of adventure that will plunge the members of the Fellowship of the Ring into a perilous quest and set the stage for the ultimate clash between the powers of good and evil.
In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien's great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe—hobbits, elves, and wizards—step colorfully into life. Rob Inglis' narration has been praised as a masterpiece of audio.
Inglis performs this classic with the originality and spirit it deserves. With a nuanced shift in voice, a clever accent, and his clear love of the language, he brings Tolkien's intricately imagined world into thrilling multi-dimensional life.

Audible Summary
When you find yourself, once again, traversing the wilds of Middle Earth, it’s probably no accident. You were there in Book One, and you’ve been making your way back ever since. The Two Towers , the second book in Tolkien’s seminal Lord of the Rings trilogy, is a spectacular audio-odyssey, alive with the sights and sounds of the land where the fantasy genre was born.
The Fellowship has been forced to split up. Frodo and Sam must continue alone towards Mount Doom, where the One Ring must be destroyed. Meanwhile, at Helm’s Deep and Isengard, the first great battles of the War of the Ring take shape.
Your unabridged journey will be guided by the virtuosic vocal stylings of Rob Inglis, whose many character portrayals are nothing short of masterful. Along the way, you’ll learn what millions of true Tolkien-ites already know: Lord of the Rings lives and breathes on audio.

Publisher's Summary
The Return of the King is the towering climax to J. R. R. Tolkien’s trilogy that tells the saga of the hobbits of Middle-earth and the great War of the Rings. In this concluding volume, Frodo and Sam make a terrible journey to the heart of the Land of the Shadow in a final reckoning with the power of Sauron.
In addition to narrating the prose passages, Rob Inglis sings the trilogy’s songs and poems a capella, using melodies composed by Inglis and Claudia Howard, the Recorded Books studio director. This recording also contains Tolkien’s preface to the trilogy, including a prior history of the ring, and shire habitat, history, and folkways.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com Review
Hobbits and wizards and Sauron--oh, my! Mild-mannered Oxford scholar John Ronald Reuel Tolkien had little inkling when he published The Hobbit; Or, There and Back Again in 1937 that, once hobbits were unleashed upon the world, there would be no turning back. Hobbits are, of course, small, furry creatures who love nothing better than a leisurely life quite free from adventure. But in that first novel and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the hobbits Bilbo and Frodo and their elvish friends get swept up into a mighty conflict with the dragon Smaug, the dark lord Sauron (who owes much to proud Satan in Paradise Lost), the monstrous Gollum, the Cracks of Doom, and the awful power of the magical Ring. The four books' characters--good and evil--are recognizably human, and the realism is deepened by the magnificent detail of the vast parallel world Tolkien devised, inspired partly by his influential Anglo-Saxon scholarship and his Christian beliefs. (He disapproved of the relative sparseness of detail in the comparable allegorical fantasy his friend C.S. Lewis dreamed up in The Chronicles of Narnia, though he knew Lewis had spun a page-turning yarn.) It has been estimated that one-tenth of all paperbacks sold can trace their ancestry to J.R.R. Tolkien. But even if we had never gotten Robert Jordan's The Path of Daggers and the whole fantasy genre Tolkien inadvertently created by bringing the hobbits so richly to life, Tolkien's epic about the Ring would have left our world enhanced by enchantment. --Tim Appelo
Review
'The English-speaking world is divided into those who have read The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and those who are going to read them.' Sunday Times 'A story magnificently told, with every kind of colour and movement and greatness.' New Statesman 'Masterpiece? Oh yes, I've no doubt about that.' Evening Standard

约翰·罗纳德·瑞尔·托尔金,CBE(英语:John Ronald Reuel Tolkien,1892年1月3日-1973年9月2日),笔名J.R.R.
