It might be hard to understand what 'ownership' really is. In most contexts, the word 'ownership' means that you have or possess something as your property. For example, you lost your iPhone and someone found it. When you meet the finder to claim the phone, you have to prove your ownership of the phone. Of course, it is easy. As long as you can enter the passcode or scan your fingerprint and get into the device, your ownership is proved and you take the phone back.
However, in some contexts, 'ownership' means 'responsibility'. As an employee, you are expected to take 'ownership' of your work. This means you take the responsibility and/or initiative over the work. You as an individual are responsible for the outcome of your work (quantity, quality, completing the work on time, etc.), not anyone else.
