The book presents more than 60 of Morphy's brilliant and instructive games in demonstration of basic chess principles written by grandmasters Reuben Fine and Cecil Purdy.
保罗·摩菲（Paul Morphy，1837年6月22日—1884年7月10日），也译作保尔·摩菲，美国国际象棋棋手。自幼钻研棋艺，19岁时即战胜所有美国大师及访问美国的欧洲冠军。1858年赴欧洲，一年之内战胜包括阿道夫·安德森在内的英、法、德各国所有强手，成为历史上继阿道夫·安德森之后第二个非正式的国际象棋世界冠军。因为那时还没有正式比赛的世界冠军，因此摩菲被认为是国际象棋的无冕之王。后因病而过早地离开棋坛。
