The Sesame Street Podcast is a weekly video segment launched on September 18, 2007, and produced by Sesame Workshop. Every Tuesday, a 5-minute video clip containing material from Sesame Street is broadcast over the Internet and made available to sesameworkshop.org and iTunes.
The podcast is the result of research that found that parents have been looking for such educational media to take with them on-the-go. Glenda Revelle, vice president for research and creative development in digital media at Sesame Workshop noted that Sesame research teams have "learned that parents are eager to have portable educational media content that they can use with their young children at any time and wherever they might be -- helping to fill time on a car ride or while waiting in line at the grocery store while building children's literacy skills at the same time."[1]
Just one week after its initial launch, the podcast became the number-one video downloaded on iTunes. Gary Knell acknowledged the fans and went on to say that the "podcast is a natural extension of the show's mission and an example of how Sesame Street is continually evolving to help children, no matter where they are, develop a love of learning." Glenda Revelle added, "The response that Sesame Workshop has seen so far confirms our prior research. Busy parents on the go are happy to have engaging, educational content available for their children wherever they may be and whenever they may have time for viewing."[2]
