Spring is the flower season for many plants, why not take your baby out to smell the flowers.

Let's take a look at the flowers that bloom in Spring:

1) Lily of the Valley
Lily of the Valley (Convallaria) is a very tiny delicate looking plant. The flowers are white and bell-shaped as they hang off of their stems.

They look like a beautiful flower to have at a wedding because the small flowers look like wedding bells!
It grows from late spring to mid summer. The tiny white flowers sit with large, oval shaped, dark green leaves. It is also the May birth month flower. This plant is a perennial plant that grows low to the ground. It is perfect to use as a ground covering in your favorite garden. Unlike most plants, this plant grows its best in shady area. It needs very moist soil in lots of shade for optimal growing. This flower is very easy to grow. Plant it about 2 inches deep in moist dark soil. Spread the planst out so that they are planted 4 inches apart.

While this plant thrives in shady areas, you can have it planted in an area where some sun comes through. As long as it is not too much sun, it should be fine.

Plant this plan in the springtime, and watch it grow! It is a plant that grows and spreads very quickly.

Enjoy this flower year after year. I know I do. It is one of my favorite flowers to look at!

    2) Tulip

The tulip flower is popular in the spring. In the beginning of spring I see them everywhere. In gardens, lining people's walkways, even on the sides of busy roads.

They are also a sign that Easter is near. They are the staple Easter flower.

    Purple Tulips
They are bulbs and also perennials. They usually only last about 2 to 3 years however.
While they come in many different colors and sizes, they also come in different kinds.

There are many different types and here are some below.

Single Early: are the ones you usually see in the beginning of spring. They come in all different colors and grow between 6 and 18 inches tall.

Double Early: have more petals then the single early version. They come in reds, pinks, oranges, yellows, and white. They usually grow around beginning to mid spring and grow up to 12 inches tall.

Darwin Hybrid: grow in mid spring and have a pyramid shape to them. They come in many bright colors such as pink, yellow, orange, and red.

Triumph: also grow in mid spring. They are very large and grow to 14 to 24 inches. They come in a wide variety of colors.

Single Late: is another tall version of this flower. They can be anywhere from 24 to 30 inches tall. The flower itself has an oval shape to it. They also come in a wide variety of colors.

Fringed: are named for the way they look. The edge of the petals are fringed. They come in purple, pink, red, white and yellow. They grow 14 to 26 inches tall.

Lily Flowered: has a beautiful look to it. The petals are pointy shaped, and open up like a delicate looking flute. They come in all kinds of colors.

Parrot: has a different look. They have fringed petals that open wide. This type comes in bright colors and is very large.

Greigii: blooms in mid spring and the flower stand straight up at attention. The petals do not spread out far when opened.

Viridiflora: flowers are 16 to 21 inches tall. They are also called green tulip because of the green streak on their leaves.

Double Late: are full flowers with a large bloom. They bloom in late spring and are 14 to 24 inches high.

Rembrandt: have strange looking marks on them. They are from a virus that was spread onto the plants. They are not usually planted anymore.

Fosteriana: blooms in mid spring and has large flowers. They look very tall and can grow to be 12 - 18 inches tall.

Kaufmannia: have a very large blossom. They bloom in mid spring.

    Orange Tulips
It is best to start planting these bulbs in mid fall so that they will begin to grow in the spring. Choose a spot that gets ample sunlight, as they will grow towards the sun.
Plant each bulb about 5 to 8 inches deep and space them about 3-4 inches apart.

The problem with these flowers is that so many animals like to eat the flower right off the stem. Either spray the blossoms with something that deter animals away, or build a small fence out of wire around your garden.

Plant some daffodils near these plants, because daffodils are not animal friendly plants.

Even if they only last about one season, it is worth it because they look beautiful, and are cheap enough to buy year after year.

    3) Poppy Flower

The Poppy flower (Papaver) can be either an annual or perennial. Whichever type you choose you will be sure to love.

Whatever the kind, they will bring a very unique look to your garden.

    Poppy
There are a lot of different species of this flower. They have very large blossoms that grow from the foliage.
Perennial Poppies grow from seeds in the soil. They are very easy to grow and they reseed themselves so that they continue to grow again each year. Corn Poppies grow in the spring. They are annuals that can be planted in fall or early spring.

Angels Choir is a double flower that can be a soft pink or white color.

Oriental Poppy is a very popular species. They can be a bright orange, red, purple, or white color. They are perennials and grow to be almost 4 feet tall.

Certain Poppies should be planted in a certain way. They all do not grow the same.

If you are unsure about how to grow your plants, check out your local nursery to get directions on how to plant your flowers correctly.

Most species do however grow best in areas with full sun to light shade. Make sure you have them planted in well-drained soil. Also spread your seeds out. They do not grow well if they are too crowded.

Once the flowers begin to grow, they make a beautiful contribution to a vase of fresh cut flowers.

They are very easy to cut, and once you have them in a vase, they look gorgeous.

Poppies definitely bring a unique look to any garden. Whether you use them as accent flowers, or as the main focus of your garden, they will be sure to brighten up anyone's yard or flowerbed.

    4) Hyacinth

The Hyacinth has a very distinct look it. It grows straight and tall with tiny flowers blooming off of a single stem. Plenty if green leaves surround the plant.

They come in many different colors. Among them are pink, blue, violet, white, and pink.

Besides a distinct look, they also have a distinct smell. They have a very strong, sweet scent to them. Some people love the smell, while others can't be near it.
I love the look of this flower, but the smell is a killer for my sinuses. Whenever I have a this plant, I have to put it outside immediately, in the furthest section of my yard. Like I said, I love to look at it, but can't take the smell.

This flower is a member of the bulb family. The bulbs grow best when planted in the winter. They need a period of cold to get them growing at there best.

Plant the bulbs in the fall and space them about 8 - 10 inches apart. If you want bigger flowers that bloom, buy bigger bulbs.

Plant the bulbs about 8 inches deep into the soil. Plant them in a sunny spot with moderate shade at times. Also mach sure they are in well-drained soil.

After you plant the bulbs, water them and put some loose mulch around them.

When the flowers start to grow in the spring, you will see groupings of green buds at first. Then the flower blooms.
Since they are bulbs, they will grow again for a few years after planting. After about 5 or so years, you will need to get rid of the old bulbs, and plant new ones. Be careful while handling new bulbs. They can cause your skin to break out in a rash.

If you live in an area that has really cold winters, it is best to take the bulbs indoors to grow. Then replant them, as the winter turns milder.

This is a good flower to place at any spot in your garden. You can group them in with other flowers. Use them as borders to your garden. Or you could even grow them, and then pot them for indoor use: if you don't mind their scent of course.

No matter where you place them, their unique look and smell will add a certain beauty to your garden.

    5) Cherry Blossom

Cherry Blossoms are some of the most beautiful flowers, coming in bright colors. The Cherry Blossom tree in full bloom, during the arrival of spring, is one of the most beautiful sights to behold.
The Cherry Blossom is so popular that festivals are celebrated in its honor- the Cherry Blossom Festival, celebrated in the months of March and April.
Kingdom Plantae Division MagnoliophytaClass Magnoliopsida OrderRosalesFamily Rosaceae Subfamily Prunoideae Genus PrunusThe Cherry Blossom is Japan's unofficial National Flower. Somei Yoshino is a favorite Cherry Blossom variety of the Japanese. The flowers are almost pure white, tinged with the palest pink, especially near the stem.
The Somei Yoshino Cherry Blossoms bloom, and usually fall within a week, before the leaves come out. The trees, thus look nearly white from top to bottom. Other Cherry Blossom varieties include yamazakura, yaezakura, and shidarezakura. The yaezakura Cherry Blossom have large flowers, thick with rich pink petals.
The shidarezakura Cherry Blossom, or weeping Cherry, has branches that fall like those of a weeping willow, bearing cascades of pink flowers.
The Japanese Cherry starts flowering profusely from the first warmer days in April, heralding the coming of spring. The pink or white flowers grow in racemose clusters at nodes on short spurs. They are past flowering early in May.
The Cherries can be divided into three groups - the European, the American, and the Oriental. In general, the Oriental types (Prunus serrulata) are less hardy. It includes evergreen shrubs, flowering fruit trees, and all the stone fruits - almonds, apricots, cherries, nectarines, peaches, plums, and prunes. They are also very ornamental.
