Itsy Bitsy Spider Felt Board CharactersIn this section I've put together some simple pages to go with the nursery rhyme. You can use them in a couple of ways: Use the sheets as... PUPPETS
Either print the black and white sheet to color
OR
print the color page
Cut out each image and tape it to a popsicle stick or an unsharpened pencil.
Use the sheets as... FELT BOARD CHARACTERS
Either print the black and white sheet to color
OR
print the color page
You can cover with clear contact paper or laminate if you want them to last longer.
Cut out each character.
Cut out a small piece of coarse sandpaper and tape or glue it on the back of each character (if you laminated, it will need to be a larger piece of sandpaper). The sandpaper will allow the characters to stick on your felt board.
The nursery rhyme is quite short, but if you own a felt board it's still nice to put up felt board characters and point to them as they are mentioned in the nursery rhyme.

Print the page below. Have the children color the house and cut it out. Staple a flexible
straw to the house as shown. Give each child a spider ring which are available at Wal-Mart
or other similar stores in the Halloween section. Have they say the rhyme and manipulate the
spider up and down the waterspout.
We sang "Eensy Weensy Spider" today and acted out the song with our felt board.
Everyone got to be a spider, the rain or the sun.
We had different color spiders so we sang.
The big "red" spider went up the waterspout. Down came the rain and washed the spider out. Out came the sun and dried up all the rain And the big "red" spider went up the spout again.
I hot glued tiny spiders on the end of a popsicle stick for the children to use as a pointer, and taped a pocket inside the cover for them to keep it. They loved pretending the straw was a water spout. I actually brought in a small crook piece of a downspout and a big rubber spider tied onto a piece of yarn so we could pull it up the spout and have it fall back down – lots of fun!!
The Eensey Weensey Spider
The eensey weensey spider went up the water spout. (Walk your fingers up.)
Down came the rain and washed the spider out. (Flutter your fingers down, simulating rain, and then sweep your hands out.)
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain. (Make a circle over your head with your arm, simulating the sun.)
Then the eensey weensey spider went up the spout again. (Walk your fingers up.)
Okay…put your fingers together.
Let’s do the Eensey Weensey Spider.
The eensey weensey spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain.
Then the eensey weensey spider went up the spout again.
A little faster now.
The eensey weensey spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain.
Then the eensey weensey spider went up the spout again.
Now let’s try it slow, with a low voice.
The big, big spider. (Do the same actions this time, but with BIG gestures. Put your hands far apart.)
The big, big spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain.
Then the big, big spider went up the spout again.
