妈妈昨天就又发明了一个新游戏，叫英语猜谜。
妈妈拿一本儿童英英字典，找一些简单的名词，把英文解释念给Monica和她爸，然后让他们猜出这个名词。
很好玩，妈妈问："What is the hair on chin? "
Monica大概不知道什么是chin,于是妈妈指指自己的下巴，“Monica, Look at me. Here is the chin!”
Mo还是不说话，妈妈鼓励Mo：“You can say your answer in chinese.”
Monica脱口而出：胡子！
妈妈惊喜死了，抱着Mo狂亲......
我们还猜了被子，门铃、蝴蝶什么的，非常好玩。
蝴蝶的英语解释是这样的：“Is an insect with a tiny body and four wings that are much bigger than his body.It's wings are very beautiful.”Mo瞬间就猜出是蝴蝶来了。我惊奇地问她怎么猜到的？Mo说一听到是昆虫，又有美丽的翅膀就知道了。
呵呵，我们在猜猜妈介绍的网站，做了个insect的纸盒，insect这个词就被Monica记住了。
做这个游戏，Monica高兴，妈妈更高兴！
As you saw, Monica is very very shy. Even she is allowed to speak Chinese, it's still very difficult for Monica to have conversation with a Chinese stranger. So if Monica does not answer your questions, it's not your fault,It's Monica's personality and the difficulty of the different language. I guess the most difficult thing you teach Monica is teaching with no answer、no communication. Maybe you'll feel bored or frustrated.
Well,it's doesn't matter,because I had the same feeling when I started speak English with her. Waht I learned is if you keep work, you can find the progress,and feel the sense of achievement. So my advise is to be patient、very patient、and more patient.
Some times Monica has no patient to listen, and try to skip pages, to avoid this case,there are some tips for you:
(1)Monica likes the voice of animal,for example quack quack and baa baa. So when you read, you can add some "animal language",or just some funny sounds or exaggerate faces. Give each heroines different voice、different speed is fun.And exaggerate everything can make fun too.
(2)Monica likes all funny things and silly things,so if you find something silly or funny in story or in pictures or just funny sound,you can point it out and laugh. Monica will laugh with you, I can promise.
(3)You can describe pictures in detail,for example the colour of clothes、the hair style of the heroine. And you can give some simple comment about this, such as I like this colour, or It's a silly hair style, or I like this cat. Then try to ask Monica does she like or not.If she does not answer, try to say: I guess Monica will like it, because...Am I right?
(4)When something is hard to find in the picture, ask Monica I spy a ***, can you find it?
(5)Try to ask simple questions to get her interest."Simple " means can answe by yes or no or pointing.
(6)When reading is boring,try to play with book. We always pretend eating the cakes from books,pretend holding animal from books, just pick something out frome the pictures, and play game with it.
(7)Other listener can be toy fox、toy rabbit、and me.Ask some question to us too. And then,please answer that questions as you are the fox in a fox tone.
(8)Monica is very timid.She may scared by some story.(I was very surprised and could hardly understand that she feel scared when I read "humpty dumpty sat on a wall") If Monica refuse some story, you can ask her if she feel scared. If she nod, please change a book.
(9)When Monica say something in Chinese,please translate it to English. For example Monica says 我喜欢。You can say,Monica, Are you going to say I like it?
In any case,the most important thing is to speak slowly、and clearly,and try to use simple sentence.Because kids are trying to copy us,so we have to give them a sample easy to hear and copy.In other words, you can imagine you are a mother helping your own kid speaking——you will speak slowly、clearly,and use body language.
Don't worry, I'll be with you and Monica,listen to the story、and play too. My wish is when I speak English not correctly,please point it out.(But no need to correct Monica's words,Monica is too shy,she needs encourage.)
The last tip is,in kindergarten, Monica's teachers encourage kids with stickers.I will give you a book of stickers at first time,so she will think you are a real theacher.At first,show us"I have stickers,I am a teacher!",At ending of lesson, say"Monica is a very good girl, so she can get a big sticker." And give her one.Stickers are very important,so keep that stickers book, and take it to My home everytime.
