Hi Charlene – I would suggest one of these two courses, I have given you my thoughts in blue. Hope that helps.
1. Creative Writing Grades 8 – this course will provide David with a chance to explore his creative writing skills. The focus will likely be on more descriptive writing – which is always a great area to improve upon. As students become better with creative writing – their written work tends to be more detailed, in-depth and more interesting to read.
Classes are designed to give students more time in a subject area or to provide a chance to preview a subject area. For example, a student may wish to take a class in their current grade to have extra time to learn important skills and concepts. Other students may wish to take a class one grade level above their current level in order to be more prepared for the next level. These courses are available to all middle school students (as of September 2014).
4. English 9 Skill Building – this course will provide David with a chance to see what English 9 will be like. He might have a combination of reading and writing in this course. There will likely be a mix of reading literature and responding to literature through a variety of written assignments.
Secondary skill building courses are designed to develop core learning outcomes in a particular subject. Students may choose to take skill building courses with the following goals in mind: 1) to preview the curriculum in an upcoming grade, or 2) to review the learning outcomes in the grade just completed.
