No40 Swimming
Your baby may tire quickly, so don't spend too long in the water.

Lots of babies enjoy swimming and starting them early can give them confidence in the water, as well as building up their muscles. You could begin with a baby swimming class.

If your baby seems nerves, bring some bath toys to the pool with you.
Take snacks and a drink with you for afterwards, and make sure you wrap your baby up warmly on the way home.
Bring along some high-energy snacks, such as banana, cubes of cheese or plain popcorn.
Some babies take a long time to get used to swimming pool environment, so if your baby is unhappy be prepared to leave the pool and try again at a later date.

No41 Make a memory
It's so easy yo get caught up in the life of your child without recording what's happening. But later on it might be fun to look back on what your child was doing at each stage.

Try keeping a recor of your child's activities.

You could try keeping a baby scrapbook, filling it with first words, lists of favourate toys and milestones your child has reached.
Find the time to take finger and hand prints and stick them inside the book alone with first drawings.
You could add photographs too, and make it into an activity by taking monthly or yearly trips to a photo booth.
Stick in birthday cards, entry tickets to plces you have visited together and list presents your child has been given.

NO42 Out and about
Plan local trips for your toddler, such as a trip to a nearby farm, pet shop, market or child-friendly museum.
Zoo trips are usually popular with toddlers.

Talk to your toddler about the trip beforehand, look at the photographs or picture in books.
Plan the trip around your child's nap time and take snacks and a drink for the journey.
You could also take photographs of the day itself and stick them into a scrapbook, so that you can look back over it together and make it a day to remember.

Encourage your child in make-believe play.
If your child has a favourite soft play, or doll, involve that toy in your day-to-day activities and make it 'come to life'. Playing with toys llike this can provide an outlet for your child's feelings and encourage talking.

You could walk your child's toy across the floor, help it get dressed, and offer some food at mealtmes.
Try doing 'voices' for your toddler's toys. You'll find her may respond as if to a real person.
You can also encourage your toddler to wash her toy, or pretend to wash it and tuck it up and put it to bed.
A shoe box makes a perfect bed for a toy.

NO45 Fun with food
Babies of thing age often become fussy easter, so you may want to put the fun back into the mealtimes. Prepare small pieces of fruit, cooked vegetables and cheese and put them into separate pots on the highchair.

Let your baby enjoy sorting the pieces of food, passing them to you, and hopefully putting a few pieces in her mouth.
It helps to put a large, clean wipeable cloth, such as a plastic tablecloth , under the highchair so that it's easier to clean up any pieces that are dropped.

No46 Learning to walk
If your baby is trying to walk, you can help her practise by making your own 'baby walk' out of a sturdy cardboard or plastic box. Fill the box with toys or books to stop it from tipping over.

Walking with a box will encourage your child to take steps on her own. It will build up her sense of balance and confidence.
While your baby holds onto the side of the box, stand behind her and help her gently push it across the floor, so she can walk after it.
Keep pace with your child as you move the box, and be ready to catch her if she trips or falls.
Stop as soon as your baby seems tired or loses interest.

No47 Jigsaw puzzles
Your toddler may be just starting to enjoy large-piece jigsaw puzzles and the idea of fitting objects together.
Choose simple puzzles with pictures of familiar things on them.

You can make your own puzzle by sticking a simple picture from a magazine onto a card, then cutting it in two, either along a wavy line or the classic jigsaw shape.
Show your baby how to fit the pieces together again to make the picture whole.
You could also make puzzles using photographs of friends and family stuck onto pieces of a card.

Toddler love familiarity and it's good to say rhymes over and over again, so that your child gets to know them. Try missing out a word and then pause to see if he can fill the gap.

No49 Time to climb
Many babies are fascinated by stair-climbing and it's good yo build in some time so they can pratise these skills now.Always stay behind a climbing baby so that you're ready to catch him if he falls.

Some babies prefer walking up the stairs, with you holding their hands-count the stairs as you go.
Going down is harder and you will probably notice a change of tactics over these months,from sliding down backwards to holding the wall or rail and stepping.
Make sure you're on hand to catch your baby, but let him take the lead.
Put stair gates at the top and bottom of your stairs, so your child can't climb them when you're not looking.

No50 Animal activities
You might find that your toddler is becoming fascinated by animals. Encourage this by choosing books with animals in them, pointing out any animals you see and visting a nearby farm.
Always make the appropriate animal sound when you see a farm animal.
