Absolute power corrupts absolutely
The Novel Animal Farm, written by Geoge Orwell, tells a fictional story about how a group of animals overthrow the owners of Manor farm. The farm animals,. Led by the pigs, established a system where all animals are equal, but the animals quickly find out the consequences of total dictatorship and corruption. The novel resembles the Russian Revolution, and the cruelty of communism through a series of events and major characters. This essay will now go on to examine how absolute power corrupts absolutely. (老师评语 Good idea)
History can prove the ineffectual outcomes of dictatorship. Power is authority and strength, when too much power is given, a dictatorship form, where all the decisions are made by one and only one. In Animal Farm this type of government is portrayed by the pigs, the pigs, led by Napoleon made all the decisions, from selling the hen eggs, to building a windmill, although these may seem like good choices, they were self centered and were for the better living of the pigs. It was because of this dictatorship that led to the end of animal farm.
In the beginning of the story, old major who was the most respected animal in the farm, gave a speech about the cruelty of men, and how the only enemy of animals were men. Old major used him power to persuade the animals to start a revolution and pursue his dream. The power that old major used to start a revolution, led to this rebellion and many other tragedies. I believe he is one of the main reasons that animal farm was destroyed. (老师评语 Need support this!)
After old major passed away, two pigs Napoleon and Snowball took over the farm. At first, everything looked well and peaceful, the harvest was good, and many animals were educated, but as time passed on, it proved how power corrupts society, the leaders started to disagree on everything, Napoleon and Snowball competed against each other for power of the farm, and when a decision was made whether or not to build a windmill, Napoleon chased snowball away and became the head ruler of the farm. Napoleon finally took over of the farm, which led to a huge food shortage and many deaths of animals. The animals were very miserable, but with the pigs and dogs on Napoleon’s side, and all the power that Napoleon has obtained, they had nothing they could do. The more power Napoleon obtained, the more corrupt he became, he eventually only thought about himself and made decisions that only benefited him, from trading with humans just to get some whiskey, to slaughtering one of his most loyal worker for money, Napoleon eventually even decided to make changes to the seven commandments to make his life easier and comfortable. The power that the pigs obtained corrupted them and when one pig obtained absolute power. He corrupted his whole society.
Orwell proved to us in the novel that no matter how hand a society tries to become equal, it will never be achieved, because power is always the roots of evil, and as in the book said, “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.” proving once again that absolute power corrupts absolutely.
