Its music was like water trickling over pebbles in a stream.
Its music was like the wind whistling in these branches.
It was reached by a trap door in the middle of the floor, from which a ladder led down into the small, dark hole.
Not a tree nor a house broke the broad sweep of flat country that reached to the edge of the sky in all directions.

All boys brought their servants to school. Doran carried Icos's things, answered questions, and did chores.
在《Everyday Life in Ancient Greece》里是这样描述的
In Athens, society was male-dominated - only men could be citizens and only upper-class males enjoyed a formal education. Women had few political rights and were expected to remain in the home and bear children. Fully one quarter of the population was made up of slaves, usually prisoners captured during the many clashes that extended Greek influence overseas. These slaves provided much of the manpower that fueled the burgeoning economy, working in shipyards, quarries, mines, and as domestic servants.
Most Greek cities did not have publicly-funded schools – Sparta was the exception. Education was therefore a private affair.
Wealthy families would put a boy under the care of a slave who would accompany him everywhere. The boy (and the accompanying slave) would attend a small school run by a private teacher, who would have a few pupils in his charge. Here, the boy would learn to read and write, and do arithmetic. Later, they learned to sing and play music (which for the Greeks included poetry).(后面还附有文物图)
